A lot of people consider it to be THE best year for the Beetle. Old body styling, increased horse power 12 volt electricals. My first Beetle was a Java Green 67, named Put Put by the original owner. The Michigan winters did her in many years ago, still have the radio and one of the "PUT PUT" license plates.

That was actually my engine from the Savanna Beige '67 sedan I had - from a picture I took in 1985! Very Happy At that time, it was a completely unmolested factory original 1500 w/ around 52,000 miles. Apologies for the rather low-res quality of the film print to phone's camera upload... I've always wondered what that painted "17" number on the fan shroud was for? This was a very early August '66 production '67 engine / car.

Hoping that these photos might be of some help to the OP, again... apologies for the pre-digital age "snapshots". Note: this car had the 1966 and earlier rear bumper over-riders, as all early 67's did! Also had an accessory installed right hand mirror mounted in the trunk gap space! I added the "Porsche" plate frame Rolling Eyes

Hi 67conv,
Sorry to hijack the thread slightly, but your pictures of your old Savannah Beige bug brought back memories of my '67 Savannah beige beetle flooding back.
I bought it as a second car in the early 1980's for my wife to drive the kids to school and immediately got me hooked and set me on the route to lifelong Volkswagen ownership.
These little cars have a way of getting under the skin !
