|
|
I’ve searched around the forums and have been unable to find the specific answer to my Q:
In order to reinstall the fuel tank on a 2wd, do you need the vehicle jacked up in order to clear the ground for the straps to install?
I’ve got everything back together and a ratchet strap holding the tank in, and the steel braces/straps don’t seem to have the ability to get set up in the mounting holes on the rear of the tank. _________________ -------------------------------------------------

I dropped my tank, resealed it, and reinstalled it all with it sitting on it's own wheels. No jacking up needed. Though it WAS a bit of a pain to get back in with the low clearances, it IS possible! |

Just did this with my parents' van. Dad was struggling to get the straps back in, so I jacked the van (with 1.5" lift) up a couple of inches and they went right in. _________________ ~Kamz

did you bend the tabs on the straps? whats the trick? |
No trick at all. Just lots of pushing and wiggling... Though after thinking on it I seem to recall there are some tank differences between some of the years. Mine is a 1980, so its possible that later tanks are harder to get in perhaps? |

yeah, hot damn that was a real B***H.
I ended up buying 2 bottle jacks, cranking the van up and slotting them in.
had to use the bottle jacks again to set the rails in the tank to get those screws on the other side to fit in.
Highly likely that I have a later year tank smashed into an early year van.
Its up now. i just have to pray to the van gods that the thing is sealed properly.
thanks all _________________ -------------------------------------------------

Yeah it sucks but is totally doable. I just had a floor jack acting as a second person along with the ratchet straps and made it work. In my case getting the crossovers back in was honestly the worst part and that wasn't that bad. But no, no bent tabs. Stuffs just gunked up so takes time to come out sometimes.
** by crossovers I meant the plastic junctions for the tank crossover on the top side. |
