Beginner here. Just recently received this 71 super beetle. Going to try and save her. I am trying to figure out what is missing in this hole. It’s located right next to the brake reservoir. ( under it ). Here is a picture. Thanks for the help in advance.

I don't think that hole is factory. I also have a 71 and there is no hole at all. Maybe it was for aux heater or maybe car had a/c.

And get your fuel tank bolted down.

Thanks. The tank is empty and needs to be replaced. But the new one will definitely be bolted down. This is not road ready yet. But I have looked everywhere and can’t find that hole. One more patch panel to make. No big deal.

Any other holes further forward on the inner side of the LH fender well?, or in the RH air plenum near the glove box?, looks a bit like the hole for a later gas heater.
