There are many threads here on failed alternator mounts on the WBX water jacket case: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/search.php?searc..._chars=200
Fixes like have been mentioned.
While I haven't gone through all the links because my case mounts (KOW) are just fine, I haven't see this brutal fix before, which I harvested from a core engine years ago. So I thought post it here to document it.
It's a 3.5mm flat steel plate with an alternator mount welded to it, which attaches to the 4 oil breather tower studs and a mount point on the head by cyl 2. Since it was obviously constructed to compensate for destroyed mount points on the case, there was no thought to aligning the mount bolt holes with the OEM location.
I want to test it out, so I relieved it to accept two bolts in the stock location.
Done right, it would have 0-ring reliefs cut to both sides to seal the breather tower base, a stock bracket located at the correct height, and maybe a 6th attachment point above the water port by cyl #2.
Who knows, maybe this is a business opportunity for one of our entrepreneurial vendors.
