|

Morning,
Sorry for the dumb question, but can I safely do a coolant pressure test without coolant in the system?
It seems logical to check for leaks before the coolant is added after replacing the radiator, some hoses and a rear-heater delete.
I appreciate the help. _________________ 1990 Vanagon Westfalia |

It would be safe, but more difficult to find leaks in real world conditions. Air compresses differently than liquid. Don’t pressurize over 15-17 PSI. |

Seems logical to me, with a spray bottle of water/dish soap on all the hose clamps to check...
If you'd already filled with coolant but found a reason to take off a hose down low...that would suck to dump it all out to deal with the errant clamp/hose or whatever it is.
Good luck if you try it ! |

Thanks, Brickster. I kind of thought that. I'll do a preliminary check w/ just air then do it again with coolant.
Now I just need to find that expansion tank to pressure tester adapter locally. If anybody in Seattle knows where, let me know. I'll do my own hunt, though.
