There are 8 shims to each link pin. 32 total. Where they go and how many depend on the offset of your torsion arms. You need to measure that, then use a chart in the Bentley manual for shim placement. If you don't have a Bentley, the process is described here:

http://www.1800vw.bizhosting.com/linkpinshims.htm

Use the chart that says 8 shims. If your measurement falls outside this range, you may have a bent torsion arm.

Go to Widefive.net and he has all the instructions on his website on how to instal. It's good people like Aaron who share this info that makes the VW community awesome! Plus you don't need all 8 as long as you have the proper amount on the inside and at least two on the outside you're good. If you need additional shims he has those available for not much coin.

I’m seeing 2 different tables in the Muir book. One table says earlier busses have 10 shims and later splits have 8. is it essential to use 10 on the earlier splits? I used 8 on mine and would rather not tear it all apart over 2 shims
