I haven’t watched things for a while. I really need to have a few bits re-chromed. What are folks doing now, and are costs still insane and wait times considerable? _________________ Plate of shrimp |

Costs aren’t really insane. When Cip1 is selling “economy” early blades around $150, it’s that VW people are cheap.
You can thank the EPA for the extended wait times though. Only the largest of shops have survived mandates/retrofits. When the EPA wants 2.5 million in facility upgrades for a shop that does $300k worth of business in a year, their only choice is to close. Look around at what shops are available. The place where I work has gone from around 10 vendors available to use, down to 2 in the last 8 years.
Cip1 has chromed stainless early blades for around $350. I would think you should be able to get og bumpers/over riders rechromed for $1500-$2k. That’s around 300% the cost comparing complete bumpers to aftermarket blades. If you work with a decent rechroming shop, you will get considerably more than 3 times the quality of what’s available off-shelf. |

This is just some dash chrome, horn ring… maybe an exterior door handle. I’ll hunt around. I’ll look at Cip1, too.
Thanks! _________________ Plate of shrimp |

Smaller items are going to be the same, rechroming quality should vastly surpass new part quality. Smaller parts are some times more difficult to rechrome since shops with large systems have to be run through cycles whether it’s a truck bumper, or a ignition switch trim ring. That may get you a wait time if they need to gather enough small components to justify cycling the tanks. |
