Update, working on installing an intercooler, oil cooler, and a boost adjustment valve for the turbo. I have done some work on the injection pump to allow for more fueling. I have also added an aux electric push fan to the front of the radiator for cooling purposes. Let’s keep this thread alive! I will post pics later.

I’ve been researching and watching the videos located on this page.

https://vwlt.co.uk/2021/01/02/tuning-the-turbo-charged-lt-a-not-so-short-guide/

Very informative! I have not performed all the modifications yet. The intercooler is in the mail, the oil cooler is in the mail, but I have adjusted the boost of the 18 psi and what a world of difference!
I also performed the adjustments on the injection pump.
It’s a little smoky from the get go so I think I’m gonna turn the fuel screw back.
I have not noticed any difference in temperature while running.
But I’m really hoping that the oil cooler is going to help bring temperatures down. For some reason this thing runs really hard even without the modifications. I think that’s because it was made in the 80s for Europe? And now with climate change in Central Oregon it is hotter than Hell here.

Finally took the LT 50D out for a drive, went to Mt. Bachelor! 22 miles, 2000’ elevation gain. 28 deg f.
Never had to go lower than 3rd gear.
Water temp never above 180 deg .
Exhaust gas temperature never went over 700° .
Oil pressure stayed at a steady 30 psi.
Boost stayed steady at .9 bar
I’m very pleased with the mild performance gains.
