Yustrn, please start a thread on your new bus and fill it with all the great stories of your friend previous owner/vw mechanic. She sounds awesome.
I also love the donation to her favorite dog charity. More people need to do that.

A close friend of the family gave me her split window bus that she got back in college. I have been working with her to get this bus for 10+ years and it happened this weekend, it’s a 60 Mango bus that was converted by a company into a camper in the SF Bay Area in the 70’s. Last reg shows 1982, other than the Jersey look wheel wells and upgraded taillight openings is a solid bus and now part of the family.
It proves two things, they are still out there and there is still good people out in this world. Since there was no way I could just take it for free I made a nice donation to her favorite charity, so hopefully there are some rescue dogs eating good and sleeping on new beds
And one more fact to trip out on, she was a mechanic at a local VW dealership back in 78’ her stories are amazing and very educational.

There are more pix on my Instagram y_u_strn I think one pic here to document a “found” bus is fine for me, I’m not here to become internet famous because I got lucky and found a bus in a field, I’ll leave the movie making, 100 pix post to others than want the attention more than I.

Nice bus and great story! Looks pretty solid. Do I see some Mango still lurking underneath that grey (household?) paint? |

I would clean that up and roll it exactly as is. Looks like a background vehicle in a CHiPs episode _________________ '57 sunroof Standard

It still has it's Chick Iverson Newport Beach dealer plate frame, so it could have been. _________________ I own a copy of "The Car of the Century" by Garwood. This means I am authorized to act like a twat in thesamba forums. |

Not sure the original color of that one, right now it's a mix of velvet green and teradactyl poop.
That one may or may not come my way in the future as well, it is not for sale or ready to leave it's current spot anytime soon by wishes of the owner...maybe in another 10 years I can post that one on here...lol _________________ I own a copy of "The Car of the Century" by Garwood. ‘59 panel original paint logoed euro sold new in Dallas, Texas. Was formerly a one owner bus with less than 25k actual miles. Dennis Collins found this bus a few weeks ago. My friends and I traveled down, rebuilt her mechanically and drove back home half way across country. Here’s the YouTube link for anyone who would like to check it out.

Love that patina. Is that how it was found? Love the stance.

So bus hunting now includes buying cars from a TV/you tube guy that "dug it up", and advertised it for sale?
Great bus, and nice to see it on the road and cleaned up, but calling this one "bus hunting" is a stretch. _________________ nothing |

This in spades.

Sorry! Dennis just found the bus, I’d say that’s relevant to bus hunting…. Secondly it was never advertised for sale. It’s been posted 3 times in separate threads, I apologize for using this as a method of trying to grow my new channel promoting buses and adventures like I’ve always thought buses were originally loved for. I’m gonna guess more have appreciated seeing it than the 2 that oppose seeing it a painful 3 times.

Moderation is key. I follow you and watch your videos, and appreciate the non-VW content you have. If you want to grow your channel, I'd suggest putting a link to it in your signature. I think the bus is cool, and looking forward to what you do with it, but seeing the same picture in three different threads is a bit much.
This was definitely not hunting. I'd even say that Dennis finding it wasn't hunting, as someone brought it to him. _________________ 1973 Standard Beetle - running maintenance thread - https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=675712&highlight=

No apologies necessary, as I said and many others have too, it is a great bus with a great look. I am glad it's back on the road being enjoyed.
It just seems odd to say it was hunted down and dug out. _________________ nothing |

Different folks hunt in different ways and different places. I am happy to see any bus get some love no matter where it was found. I'd like to see every split bus posted in this topic when it comes out of disrepair and into the bus world.
