Hello Thing cousins. I've been in the Bus & now Sun Bug crowd for 30+ years.
I just saw this feature on a new E-Thing and thought to share it here. While I've been hearing about the I.D. Buzz for years now, I've never heard talk of reviving the Thing as an electric vehicle.

I'll buy one when I see it, but I know I never will. |

Not being plugged into the Thing genre, I wasn't sure how most Thing people might feel about an E-Thing.
The first time I remember hearing about the promise of a "new Bus" was around 1991, as the Vanagon production was ending. I read occasional features in Hot VWs and VW Trends about VW teasing a new Bus. I remember their Noah concept vehicle and they claimed the new Bus would use that platform. I've seen that VW once claimed the "new Bus" would be a rebooted, high tech '64 21 window, then the talk about rebooting the Bus as a fully electric vehicle began and eventually the production date kept getting pushed back. So, I understand exactly what you're saying when you say "I'll believe it when I see it."
At this point, I am sure the I.D. Buzz will go into production and it may be a neat vehicle in its own right, but the promise of a true Bus successor is gone on the wind. |

Maybe it’s just me, but much of that car appears to be Photoshopped. _________________ - 1977 CEI Sunroof Bus 2.0L F.I. Hydraulic Lifters

The idea of a modern electric Thing coming to life is fun but I'm holding my breath to see if the new ID4 Buzz is anything I'd want to drive. The original concept was cool but had a slight 60's Star Trek shuttlecraft vibe. I'm excited to see the production model that hits the states.
I get bummed when I read about cool new cars that will never make the US market. I'd probably have a new Suzuki Jimny in the driveway right now if they still sold cars here. I also think I've seen VW quoted as saying they intend on having just one throwback model in the lineup at a time. If that's true - bummer. |
