Torques silicone/glass fibre sleeve with aeroquip fire sleeve over it along with exhaust wrap
Are you using the same?

Any idea what brand hose that is? It seems they are all rated around the same 150°C but yours obviously copes just fine.

It's just some decent stainless braided AN8 off Ebay actually. It's done a couple of thousand miles now with no problems. I can PM you the link if you want?

I'll have to chase up what stuff I'm using but it's hose and a black heat sleeve with white interior material. It's damn close to my exhaust too.

Very localised hardening of the rubber, you'll need to bend it both ways to find it I think.

After a good drive today stretching its legs a little the oil was 100°C/210°F. Head temp was 130°C /260°F measured under the nut above no3 ex. port.

Engine case was 100°C/210°F though which seems way hotter than I'd like.
Even the ground under the car was 60°C/140°F after idling a few minutes.

Hottest part of the head I could find with the IR gun was 155°C/310°F

Any thoughts on those temps?

Nothing to worry about there.

Two comments though...on your IR gun, just remember that the cylinder head will cool down more than you think in the time it takes you to get your car to a stop, hop out, and get your IR gun somewhere meaningful.
Second, unless you have your head temp gauge calibrated, just use it more as a dummy gauge instead of an end all be all. Most of those VDO ones dont compensate for variation in ambient temperatures. If it continues to run at temps around 260° on the gauge, but them spikes to 350, you know something is up. Don't over analyze it...you end up staring at it the whole drive and it becomes tiresome...I know from experience.

Get one of those meat thermometers and stick it down the dipstick tube..
And check your gauges in boiling water..

Maybe aim your IR temp gun at a couple of different motors.

They will run a bit hot until they break in.

The truth is out there somewhere.

Quality infrared guns have a setting to change emissivity , or how reflective the surface is , the trick to getting an accurate reading is knowing the E setting for the surface you are measuring . If it doesn’t then you really are never going to get an accurate reading .

A multimeter with a thermocouple probe is better in my experience . It can be verified in boiling water , get put down the dipstick tube and down beside the spark plug if you can reach there . Even a small hole in the tin over the cylinder head would work well .

Heads change temp very quickly , the CHT may well be higher at idle after a long cruise than at cruise because of the slower fan speed .

My cht gauge has cold junction compensation so hopefully it is semi reliable.

https://www.mainline-sensors.co.uk/products/cylind...nsor-cable

I use emmisivity at work as we have posh IR guns for checking out bearings, gearboxes or blocked pipes etc. Mine at home is a little more basic. I will look into a decent fluke TC to use with my multimeter though, that sounds like a good shout.

Wrt to the temp of the crank case, regardless of whether its 100°C or +/- 30°C that seems way to hot to me.
I will dip the meat probe down just to see though.

Any thoughts on the temperature of the crank case?

Once all warmed up, your case is going to be about the same as oil temp, maybe a little hotter due to heat soak, its not getting any exterior cooling unless its in a open car like a buggy or baja

Very true, does make me feel better.

Another 30 mile drive tonight with plenty of redline runs and temps are stable, only thing I am starting to notice is that my oil temps take a while to drop. I don't have a fan on my cooler, but I may try a scoop of some sort. My cooler is mounted under the boot floor and I can't imagine it sees much air flow.

No, the other way around, apart from a couple of smaller areas on the case. If you measure case temps on the outside and for arguments sake they measure 80 degrees C. and then you measure oil tmperature inside the case say through the dip stick hole or in the "type 3" filler position, you will notice that the oil is typically about 5 degrees warmer. sometimes even more, I have seen up to 10 degrees difference, but 5 degrees is a good average.

Depending on setup I could see some variation

For instance, after a hot run here in Houston (it’s hot) my case temps are approaching 200F, but my sump is 175F

Oil temp post cooler is 185F, but oil leaving pump has been 215F

Went through the rockers, valve lash stable at 0.15mm on all 8 with no adjustments needed
No1 exhaust side play has opened up to 0.8mm so I need to get that shimmed.

Currently running BPR7ES plugs, look a little hot though so will get some 8s ordered. You guys agree?

It's holding 11.8-12:1 at WOT.
Cruise around 16.

I didn't kill the engine at the end of a pull, I cruised back home.
