I love these mounds but they won't work on early luggage carriers.

If you could determine somehow that it's truly 19.6"....
And find a friend to buy the other panel.
I'm sure you can find someone if it's the only panel that fits in the Westy cargo area.
This is a total bummer for my buddy Ela who built about 20 aluminum drop-in mounts for the the 19.6" to click into the Westy cargo loops.

The mold was a different design. At least I assume my setup is stock. Everything else is. Here’s a terrible photo of my dirty carrier, but you can see the cleats are not on 45 degree chamfered cutouts but flat against the inside of the carrier.

This early design might accept the 20" wide Renogy "Compact" panel.
The rear and front inside walls are more vertical. Definitely closer to 90° on the rear face.
The later style has them with more of an angle and it is that angle preventing the 20" panel from fitting lower into the rack.
It's hard to tell really from the pictures. I would have to have one in front of me to say for sure.

Interestingly the Amazon.com and Renogy.com panels differ in both specs, Amazon 20.0 Renogy 19.5, and appearances, at the junctions... Just for fun I ordered a panel from each in order to find out for certain. Inquiring minds what to know. And yes one or both of them may go back.

I'd definitely be interested!
The ACOPower panel is scheduled to arrive next week so hopefully it will be the 19.6"
HQST no longer is showing that panel size on their website. So I'm think the source vendor ran a production run at that size and it's over so the Solar vendors have run out.
Interestingly if there is a source vendor they are all using the Renogy panel I have looks as if Renogy has their name decal under the glass.
I doubt they took an outside vendor panel apart just to put a sitcker on it so maybe the source is just supplying the solar cells and the vendors assemble them.

Ah crap. I have one of Ela's mounts but didn't pull the trigger on the a panel yet.

For reference, my 4-year-old Renogy compact 100W panel is 19.72" (501mm) wide. To fit it down into my '84 Westy rack it'd mean chamfering a tiny bit at each corner. However, I have it mounted proud of the rack to leave room for the suitcase 100W to be stowed underneath.

100W ACOPower panel just showed up - measures 1.4x19.6x42.2 as advertised and drops in to the cargo area.
Sodo - I will check and make sure the panel fits your/Ela's mount later this week - they are in a box somewhere at the shop. |

Somebody beat me to the posting!
The “dream” panel was not supposed to be here until Wed., but I got a notice that I had a package at the UPS Store.
To my delight, (mainly because I’m a lazy sod that did not want to modify the Luggage Rack to accommodate the 20” panels!) I received this “PowerEco” panel and it fits!
Amazon has it for $89.98

Renogy 100W Compact @ 21.25 volts
PowerEco 100W @ 23.17
Seems the Renogy is not as good as I thought it was.

Voltage doesn’t tell you much. A 5 watt panel could put out 21 or 23 volts open-circuit.
Better to compare the short circuit amps.
Doesn’t look like that meter reads amps directly but if you short the wires can you sense DC amps?
7 amps is not very much.
But it makes a nice 100 watts at 14.3 volts!

No, I agree with you. The voltage like that doesn't really tell you much. It's not enough to say "don't buy this panel".
Ya just have to think though- side by side at the same angle to the sun in the same sunlight...why aren't the voltages the same? 🤔😁

So the only modification you had to make was a notch at the rear of the panel so it would close properly?
