Voltage regulators typically have markings stamped into the metal legs used to bolt them in place. If none are there then it's likely an aftermarket piece and you'll need to look over the whole thing for any kind of identifying marks, part numbers etc, in order to figure out what it is. Posting up several clear pictures from different angles may help. _________________ 1960 Ragtop w/Semaphores "Inga" |

A rough guide for VW regulators is that the six volt regulators have curved mounting legs and 12 volt do not since they are mounted in places other than the generator housing. The one above is a 12v. The one below is a 6v.

Only if it's paired with a GR-17 38 amp generator as used on some '68-'71 Type 2s. I wouldn't use it with your typical Type 1 GR-15 rated at 30 amps as it won't have the correct overcurrent protection. _________________ 1960 Ragtop w/Semaphores "Inga" |

As almost always there are exceptions....
Back in the late 1980s there were 6 volt sized generators with regulators on top (like the above image), that were a 12 volt unit. Think they were manufactured out of Nippon. Bought two of those gen/reg kits and ran them till the regulators needed to be adjusted. Still have them somewhere here... _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |
