Just got my bus, finally!

First time bus owner, 1 day driving experience. Wondering what would be the right set of tools to have inside the bus? I don't have anything.

As I understand one of the first things I need is ignition timing light, maybe a tester, set of wrenches, but which ones to pick?

Any info is highly appreciated, incl. brands, links, etc.

It's westy 1972 type 4

A timing light is something I have never carried. Learn to check and adjust your timing according the Muir's advice in his Idiot Book and a timing light is not something you will need to carry. Nice to have one at home though.

I never travel without Gorilla tape, zip ties, multi-tip screwdriver, and a metric socket set.
I'm looking into a bottle jack too. I dislike the stock jack.

Carry all of the tools & parts suggested above & you will still need the one fucking thing that you didn’t bring.

AAA RV Platinum card, Hagerty Drivers Club and a credit card.

If you keep you junk in good running condition it will treat you well. The 2 times in 25 years my 61 year old VW stranded me my roller cab full of tools would not have helped. Both were pretty easy fixes once I had the truck back at home and could install the replacement trans and engine. These were both close to home - engine was 2 miles and trans was 70 miles.

I like it. Except add 11mm / 7/16ths socket- I once had a rocker shaft nut loosen up on the road. Those lil buggers are 11mm. : l still ran kind of. thought I lost a valve the way the power was disrupted. Beware no matter how many tools you pack, there will arise a need for the one you didn't think of....... edit: oh & tow strap, 3" HF one. Those get used to rescue others along the way.

Hello,
Those answers are all very good, guys.
But, the most important thing/tool to have in your VW Bus is, the "Fire Extinguisher".

But, also: pliers, channel lock, vise grips. wire cutters/strippers, test lamp, electric tape, razor blades, allen wrenches for fnt. wheel bearings retainer/adjuster (+) the CV joints and rear axle nut tool of your choice. Those are a few of the other tools I would have for a trip out of town(100 miles or more).
Oh, and your Bus manual for trouble shooting if you don't know what your looking for... Then, again. the list can go on.

Yet, your best bet is to keep your bus well cared for with, proper maintenance.

San ‘Frisco

Weed to bribe people to push you off the Bay Bridge.

Once done, don’t give it to them and tell them they are a co-victim of capitalism. Then go post angry stuff in the internets
