Buying new engine

Just looking at buying a new engine to rebuild and I’ve found one already taken apart. All the original parts are there. Never bought a non turnkey engine before and I was just wondering is there anything I should look out for? Engine in question is 1776cc and is just the block, no distributor or carbs or anything.

Yes there are pitfalls and if can’t identify them I’d take an experienced engine man with me to look the bits over. You don’t want extreme oversizes\ upper limit on tolerances. You don’t want warped but that would be difficult to see with naked eye. Rather than buy a pig in a poke I’d have an understanding that anything that mic’s out of tolerance is a deal breaker.
