Hi. I found a good Mexican F.I. head temperature sender for my F.I., it works great over the heat range...but I'd love to know where the factory put it...any pictures/descriptions? |

I used a 10x1mm brake pipe union nut, a short length of brake pipe with a flare and a type K bead thermistor JB welded into the flare as a way of getting a temperature sender into the Mexican (marked EMPI 040) heads on my engine.
It does not read much hotter than the oil temperature - I only have seen up to 285F here when idling with the outside air temperature at 80F.
The temperature on that boss still ramps quicker than the oil, but as you cannot easily fit ring senders on these T1 heads , it is not as responsive as the spark plug thread position, and there is only one boss on each head, they end up as reading No4 and No1 heads. No No3.. _________________ Ancient vehicles and vessels

Thank you, that's very interesting. I hadn't thought of doing anything like that. I'm asking because the sender was something I could buy easily for cheap, and my Haltec and it talk together fluently the kit had originally come with an air temp sender, to go into the cooling air exit. I'm much happier getting that info from a proper, made for F.I., head temperature sender.
Thanks all for the replies! |
