I went to a Cars & Coffee at Salve University.
Perched atop scenic Cliff Walk in Newport, it's a great spot to look at cars. The cliff drops 60 feet to the ocean just beyond the trees in the background.
This 1970 convertible is in very good condition.
Afterwards, we passed this 1960's Beetle while driving along the ocean. A good day for convertibles.

I went to the grocery store. Who says Beetles aren't practical cars?

Replying to the driver who posted a photo with the bonnet up, full of groceries, and asked, "Who says it's not a practical car?"
I'm pretty sure you could load a side of beef in there.

btw, Fun to drive is the reason I bought my '72 bug. (Had a '69 and a '73 in younger days. Now old man in a Beetle.) We drove today!

Took the Bug out to a local show. Surrounded by muscle cars, but it still gets a lot of attention. Also a little 1938 Bantam next to me. Took the pic in the Bantams hubcap.

Went for lunch at the Ninigret Oyster Bar and Clam Shack near Charlestown beach. We ordered clam bellies, clam cakes, and fries - delicious!

Drove 170 miles round trip yesterday in 90+ degrees, the great pumpkin hummed along at 60+ smooth as silk! First time driving it on a long run, felt great!! |

Drove 300+ miles to Putnam Valley again...in 90*+ humid weather! Man, I don't know why I do this every summer. I just like driving the car, what can I say? Not to mention taking early evening cruises around the Hudson Valley makes it worthwhile. Pictures later. _________________ Eventually, "we are what we pretend to be.’”

Just a quick pick - parked out back after yesterday's trip up the coast from the mid-Atlantic.

Very nice pics, it’s so nice to see the cars being used^^^^^
I broke out my 74 bug for ride today and before I knew was up on the highway passing Corvettes 😀 feels good at speed and probably surprises the other drivers seeing this time machine whiz past them.
Not playing just getting on down the road.
Pulled over to look at this MiG.
Then I’m looking at this old war horse Mad Dog 80.
A working sun dial
Random pic of what the diagnostic plug and wiring used to look like. I never bothered to remove it, instead the next person to own this car can have their way with it😀 |

2 weeks vacation ... time to take her out for our first long trip together since she was finally "set free" (passed safety inspection ) - so , to all fellow Samba members south of the 49th Parallel , we say Peace ! .... from The Peace Bridge border crossing looking from the Fort Erie , Ontario side ... and since the border just reopened Monday past, welcome back to The Great White North , eh ?
... and hellooooo Buffalo !
70 mile trip from home base at 55mph on a two-laner with the AutoStick ... not quite a white-knuckler but there are a lot of tweaks and adjustments to make - but for now ... release the hounds ! ! ! _________________ Roger ... "Lost in the haze of alcohol-soft middle age" |

Zund how long do you keep that 90mph up for? I've done it once on this puppy for maybe 15 seconds then chickened out.
Anyway this was today somewhere between Putnam valley and cold Spring NY. That's my older son in the passenger seat.

My fiancée and I are travelling across Canada with our 1978 Super ‘Vert at the moment! Took this pic of the eerie sky colour with the smoke from the forest fires in Northwestern Ontario. We’re in Saskatchewan now!

That trip was about 40 miles total. VW said it best in the owners manual
“ You can drive your VW at top speed because top speed is also cruising speed” or words to that effect. Once upon a time I drove from Houston to El Paso in one day flat out that’s about 845 miles. If I was going to be in the car for hours I’d probably wear hearing protection as the car is loud even in stock form. Your car is way tougher than you think. |

With a hurricane coming in to ruin the weekend, we went for a nice early evening drive.
