Yes, it's #50 if it's marked on the starter solenoid.
It's the power from the ignition switch / key (You probably know that)
I think the bottom post might only get power while the starter is cranking.
If I remember right, later VWs have another connection that goes back to the coil while the starter is cranking so the coil continues to get full battery power.
If that is true, it won't work hooked up on the bottom. _________________ How to Post Photos

This wiring and electrical portion of this build is starting to interest me . I was scared of the wiring because its just alot .lol . Anyways I'm slowly understanding how the beetle is wired . I will disconnect the wiring for paint . So the latest project is getting switches and stuff cleaned up before permanently wiring after paint .

im told i have the original zoll plate from germany . it was a temporary plate put on the car so you could drive around germany before you exported the car . the birth certificate stated delivered in germany . so most likely a serviceman had it brought back when he came home .
i would love to hear a expert on this . i believe the first 3 numbers indacate the county for which it was issued . i had no luck looking at the birth certificate . i was trying to see were the first 3 numbers saying the same as delivered

Fuel line clamp. Round hole fastens it to the left side of the fan shroud where the engine tin screw (possibly an M6 hex-head bolt) runs through the upper portion of the left cylinder cover tin. BarryL gallery: |

For your Zoll plate: I believe you're right about the first three digits being indicative of the plate's origin (specifically, the customs office).
There's a list of the three-digit codes here:
https://dr-herzfeld.de/kennzeichengeschichte/brdzoll.pdf
It looks like yours indicates Braunschweig/Brunswick. _________________ '66 Beetle |
