Value is going to depend on whether or not those cab8nets are salvageable or simply patterns.
No way is it worth $40k. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

The patina gold bell curve on cabinets probably ends a few deviations before the paint/rust one. |

The cabinets look shot, the underside is a tetanus pandemic, but still I suppose I could spend $40k, pour $20-$25k into it and have a nice $35k-$40k bus. _________________ Greg

You must not deal with early westys often. A 58 pgsg westy is worth a hell of a lot more than $35-40k.
To the earlier comment, at $15k I will be the first to put my money down. Its not worth $40k, but $15k would be a deal. |

I think this was also listed here in the whines. Most of the problems I see are with the interior, the front seat is wrong it should have the humpback seat, the middle seat is wrong, it should have the full width middle seat. All the door panels and upholstery are wrong. I'm sure there are a lot of other things wrong with this bus, but it is a german bus and looks to be pretty dry. _________________ September 1964 Standard Sunroof walk through SWR/BG original paint. |

It appears to be the same seller that sold it for $73k on BAT.

Does that mean the BAT sale fell through? |

I know, I posted that here then saw the BAT thread and deleted it... better buy mine this year or I'll be priced out forever. |

"Only allows 9 pics", you really don't need 2 of the same pics for the engine, or the old vw book, I'd rather see the bed, or a shot of the whole truck, back seat area ect., how about a link to a bunch of pics, for $125,000... _________________ Tom

It's pending now. I wonder if he settled or got his firm price of 40K.

That '58 westy is original paint and fairly complete. The condition is downright tough. It will be a huge restoration project even without repainting it, and even huger with a repaint. The price would certainly set a record for a project early westy in that condition if he gets his firm asking price. The price is just the cost of admission. The real financial pain comes in the restoration of a westy like that. It is a really neat looking nightmare.
I would think that it would take a while to sell if the price was half that. There seem to be a couple project '58 westies that come out of the woodwork every year.
The side step to nowhere. It should be placed further back in a camper.

There is a bell curve on bus condition. Up to a point you have patina gold. Beyond that you have a rusty bucket of shit. Top dollar for the latter is a bit cheeky. But there's a nice 50 pic photo shoot starring the bus that is very artistic but reveals almost nothing about true condition
It would be a tough sell at $15k |

Have you considered simply starting with a nicer bus? I don't know what your skills are, but the race is easier if you can see the finish line. If you are not a runner, don't start off doing a marathon. |

I spoke to previous "owner" when it was listed before. Think this may be the real owner - they were working together on it.
But yes many of the same pics for sure!

There was a Fake Barndoor for sale here in Vt. last year, maybe on CL, I don't recall if it was a 15 window, but it was a Fake BD, made from a Split, maybe a '67 ?? _________________ Tom
