Who has been on historic Route 6 from Omaha to the end in Provincetown?

Is it easy to follow?

How much has been taken over by the Interstate?

Average speed limit 55?

Good idea or bad? Never seen the midwest. I plan to start from Bishop. I've been in the country where the 6 is in the west. East of Denver, who knows.

I wouldn't be surprised with all of the technology out there, that you couldn't just use Waze or Google maps, or even Mapquest, and input your planned trip. It should give you total travel time, route. Mapquest might even give you the average speed limit for certain areas. I am familiar with Rt 6 from CT to Ptown, and the road goes through practically every city along the way. Sometimes it's a 4 lane road, other times 2 lane, but it will not be 55MPH the whole way, most times it will be well below that. Plan on it taking time.

The only section of Rt 6 I've been on is from Towanda PA to Scranton. Hilly, twisty, very nice drive. My guess is most of the road through PA will be like that. Towns are sporadic through that area, except for when you get close to Scranton. Keep your gas tank filled!

Edit: I looked at Rt 6 from PA west....looks pretty straight! LOL

and plan on getting hit head on in the Bolton/ Andover CT area

https://www.journalinquirer.com/connecticut_and_re...43bcc.html

i use to work at a shop on that stretch of 6.

worse was going to an accident a few days before Christmas. it was a shitty rainy/freezing rain day. delivery van came in hot around a corner and t-boned a mother and her daughter square into a phone pole.

what i thought was transmission fluid was blood all over the side of the road. they both died at the scene.

anyway.... just google "rt6 Andover accident" and you'll find about 1 a month in the news.

needless to say the sling wrecker i showed up with wasn't going to tow either of the cars so away i went. craziest thing i'd ever seen in my life.

It's boring through Indiana.

In fact, almost every road in Indiana is boring.

Is it Gila Bend to Yuma boring? Phoenix to Tucson boring?

There's boring and then there's boring.

If you get to PA, be sure to check out the Marie Antionette overlook:

Over the Bourne Bridge, 3/4 around the circle hang a right you go along the canal to 6A, hang a right and continue to Orleans. Traffic yes, but way more to see. At the Orleans rotary, half around and hang a right then left and another right after the bike trail bridge. Do it right and past the Audbon sanctuary it spits you out on Rt6 past the drive in. Take a left and continue on your merry way...the left turn there requires some boldness.
RT6 thru Eastham if you go that way, 40 mph is something they take seriously!

PS, most rentals on the cape are Saturday to Saturday, so the traffic really sucks on Saturday....
