|
|
I recently purchased a new oil strainer that was advertised as being able to fit a 1970 Type 3. When it came to install, I found that in center hole was too small for my oil pickup tube. Despite the cuts that would allow for some flexibility, it would still not press on. My pickup tube measures 19mm in diameter and same goes for my old (original?) strainer. This size seems to contradict some information I have seen online.
Digging through the post archives I found this post that appears to have once had a photo comparison of the different types. The link is unfortunately no longer working. Does anyone have the image Russ had originally posted?

Don't have Russ's info, most has been lost. This is why saving photos here on theSamba Galley is important.
The part number is:
19mm (3/4"), (Dual relief engine case) : T-3 1971-1973, 111-115-175B
16mm (5/8"), (Single relief engine case) : T-3 1968 - 1970, 311-115-175A
14mm (9/16") 40hp engine : 113-115-175 |

Thanks for this! Although there is a discrepancy in the information.
My engine is a dual relief case and is from 1970. It is 100% original to the car.
Perhaps 1970 was a changeover/half year? Glad to have the mystery solved though. _________________ 1970 Squareback |
