Recently i acquired a 1971 Early Bay, but im struggling to find what kind of pop top this is? It doesnt look like the traditional riviera top, and its obviously not a westy top. Anyone run into this? I definitely like how it works, but am hoping to find some information as far as canvas replacement. Thanks!

More pics would help, but it sure looks like a Dorper to me. There's nothing "off the shelf" available AFAIK, a local boat top shop, or tent and awning or truck tarp shop should be able to reproduce or repair yours. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Looks like a Dorper. They were made right close to where I live. Old Dorper is long gone. Some of his staff are still alive in and around Maple Ridge.
With the exception of the pop top and canvas the rest would be easy to re-create. Back in the early 70's I copied his interior and put it Into a split window kombi. Used his seat mechanisms that were a copy of the Riviera units. Pretty simple really. If you have the canvas it would be easy for an awning mfg company to stitch up one. I see Westfalia jealousies so rebuild items are evailable. Add a modern 12V fridge and you will have a nice camper. FYI. |
