Well…….

Steve (dabaron) stopped by today on his way home from a weekend activity.

I had a few items for him including a plug for an 8 pin head light switch.

I had ordered two of the NAPA awnings and he had a buddy who wanted my extra one.

We traded the awning for a set of Mr Injector rebuilt injectors.
I am completely assured that fuel delivery will not be a breakdown item!
I now have spare injectors to add to my fuel pump and Hall Sender.

I think That I’ll be carrying more parts than luggage!! 😂😂😂

I'd worry way more if I didn't carry parts, supplies and tools.
What I carry relaxes me actually, my security blanket of self sufficiency.
I don't yet have an ECU, I'm going to beg, borrow, buy or steal one before I head West.

What I don't carry, are parts for what cannot be fixed in a few hours alongside the road.

Catastrophic failure items.

I wonder if I should be worried?

I Just spent the morning running errands.

Maybe it is the weather?
Post rainy day Sunshine, low humidity and moderate temperatures ......
But, this unit is running better than it ever has!

It idles without a stumble,
Accelerates strongly
Accelerates uphill!
Rides smoothly
Quiet comfort.

I hope this isn't the proverbial calm before the storm!

Is this one of the new tires you just put on? Trashed due to alignment? How are the tires working out otherwise?

I like the tires.

Yes, worn due to alignment.

The other 3 are wearing quite well.

Good in rain, wet grass, mud.
Untested on snow or ice.

Should a Vanagon owner ever be worried? Nah; less frowns and more smiles.

Accelerates strongly

Rides smoothly
Quiet comfort.

95% of the rest of should be so lucky. Luckily, I have all of the above except for a 1100 RPM idle. In your case it's not luck as you have busted you butt to make it so.

Thanks. I have four in the pipe heading my way and was hoping you still were a thumbs up on them.

It must be late Summer in the Oley Valley in Pa!

The corn towers above my Van even with the hauler rack on.
(There actually was a much better photo op but is was a single lane gravel road on a hill/curve. Certainly no place to safely stop for a photo! )

I really do need to wash the filth off and refresh the bumper and grill!

Still driving on an antique plate I see. Doesn't that have restrictions? Here you are only allowed certain days and distances.

It does, in the process of changing it.

In Pa, once a vehicle is titled as an antique it is an antique from that day forth.
Switching the plate to non antique is a long drawn out process.
Stupidest thing ever!
First you pay for the title using the antique plate, which is not insignificant, then once the antique title comes (months!) you need to file forms and retitle the entire vehicle again!
You could just park it while all this drags out for months.
Or do as I am doing and run it.
At worst, I'll get yelled at by some over eager LEO someday.
It does NOT have antique insurance on it.

So my brakes were squeaking.
Not a gentle squeak but SQUEAL!!!

New York City Subway level squeal!

The level of brake dust on the front wheels is nothing short of astounding.

After work today I pulled the RF wheel figuring I'll clean it up and apply an anti-squeak product.

I had put new Disc's and pads on but 4,000 miles ago.

I was shocked to find that these pads were gone! D O N E worn out!

At least I caught them before they attacked the discs!
Who would think in 4,000 miles that I would need new pads?
My last trip West and back home was 8,000 miles!
I would never think of checking young brakes pads within that mileage!

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I was pleased that at least they wore evenly, I had battled uneven wear when I put on the discs.
I had filed, sanded and lubricated the mounting at that time.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

In all fairness the ones I had put in were Auto Zone $17 brake pads.
I purchased two sets because my discs were in such bad shape when I got the Van I didn't want to waste good pads on rusty chewed up discs.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I had purchased some NAPA PF-7232-M pads for my travel kit a while back.
Now I have no travel kit pads!
All new pads on!
Let's see how these wear.......
Note:
I rarely if ever buy the top of the line long wearing low dust brake pads.
I've seen slightly worn high end brake pads running on well worn discs!
Brake pad replacement is cheaper and easier than brake disc replacement!

i'm not genius, but 4000 miles seems really low for brake pads.

it has to be that monster hill you go down. Laughing

IF thats a floating caliper that pad manufacturer needs to be put out of business.

If its a dual piston, one of them is sticking.

Looky!

A new addition to my emergency travel kit.

I think I'll plug it in and verify operation but many many thanks to Duncan!
