We’re on our return way after a cross country trip. Just short of our stop for the night in Santa Fe, New México, a yuge SNAP! The clutch pedal went to the floor and didn’t come back!
That was yesterday. I just went under the bus hoping it was the cable for which I have a replacement. Found out the worst of my fears… the throw out bearing fork broke! I am now clutchless!
Normally I pretty much do nearly everything I have to do for my vehicles but I’m at a big loss here. Putting it out there in hopes of finding someone within the reasonable area that can help out! _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise.

If you’re out on the open road, you don’t need the clutch. Start it in first gear & run it up in the rpm range until you can rev match the gears & snick it into the next gear. Drive it to where you can get parts and or service it. Not ideal but you’re not stranded. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

Appreciate the advice, known it since I learned to drive in a bus!😂
However, I’m 820 miles from home. Wanted to finish the trip in the bus but am now considering a rental to tow it. _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |

There again, on the Highway, you don’t need to shift. I’d drive it & stay away from stop/go situations as much as possible. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

I did some quick Googling and there appears to be a place called
Fast-Foreign Auto Service Technicians
in Sante Fe that is into vintage VWs - the owner is reported to have a Vanagon and a Bug.
2786 Agua Fria St Santa Fe, NM 87507
(505) 471-0326
Maybe he can help with parts and/or a repair
Of course there is always
http://foreignaideabq.com/
in Albuquerque if you can get down the hill _________________ How to Post Photos

Between Santa Fe and San Diego there are two sets of 6000'+ mountain ranges to get up and down. Not something to do clutchless. _________________ Larry in OB

Cool!, change your thread title to include "solved", or "under control", or something less urgent. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

So, it turns out that the throw out bearing disintegrated.
A couple of you, as well as some friends (yeah, believe it or leave it, I do have friends!) referred me to Fast Foreign Auto Service where Jim took care of the Dormy with a quickness!
The “set back” was a few bucks and a half a day of travel. But I did get going and finally reach Phoenix just after midnight.
Again, thank you all for the quick help, concern and prayers! _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |

How are you coping with the heat along your trip? Do you have anything beyond natural airflow installed? A month ago it was way hotter, so you’ve come at a better time through this part of Arizona haha. _________________ ,,Wenige Menschen denken, und doch wollen alle entscheiden.'' -der Alte Fritz

As they say… “but it’s dry heat!”
They ain’t lying! We’re on our way back from the east and all the storms that we’ve been through. With the humidity and 87 degrees, it’s way worse that Phoenix at 100.🤨 _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |
