Julius, my new 72 Bay, suddenly started acting poorly. It runs a bit rough when started but dies as soon as it's put into reverse, even before you let out the clutch.

Guessing it's a vacuum leak, but could be a dozen other things. I'm going to pull the engine because I haven't done that in 25+ years and I figure I could use the practice and need to run the valves anyway.

I found a hose disconnected at the base of the drivers side carb which I reattached and there are a bunch of other ports that are plugged. I would appreciate any advice on which of these really matter and which I can shrug off for now.

Dies in any gear?, or just reverse?

Lets see a picture of the coil and it's wiring.

Just reverse, all other gears seem fine.

Attached are pictures of the coil. Also I discovered that where the red wire plugs into the top of the drivers side carb that connection moves easily and I'm guessing it is broken internally. Pic attached.

Move that black wire on the lower terminals up to the top ones. Wink

LOL! Ridículos quirks like this are what I love about the bus. Lesson not to be soon forgotten!

Busdaddy do you ever get tired of hearing that you're awesome?

To confirm, does the red wire go to the electromagnetic cut off?

That's the enrichment valve, I'd be extremely surprised if it actually works, you can remove the red wire entirely. Every one I've seen has permanently went into lean mode from petrified seals.
