Hey all you Vanagon brake fans!
I had an 85 Westy, 2wd, with 16" Mercedes wheels.
The previous owner left me all of these brake parts, and said he was saving up to upgrade to a BIG BRAKE SYSTEM.
I have no idea what I have here, other than two spindles that look somewhat different, the two calibers. and two rotors (says made in China on the box). Can anyone help identify these parts, so I can pass them along to someone who wants them please?
Thanks so much for all your time and help!

Vans earlier then 1985 did not fit these caliper and you had to use the spindles from 1986 and later. So that may be the spindles.
The brake rotor part number REPM271159 is not coming up in a search, but there were references to mercedes so it could be one that fits any one of those.
We need to know the outside Diameter of the disc, the height from the top of the hat to the bottom. They also appear to be vented discs.
There should be some numbers on the outside edge of the disc showing min/max thickness. _________________ This free advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Those parts are worth money and you may want to go ahead and put them on if you current brakes are getting worn out. Disc thickness too thin or if the ball joints that the spindles mount to at top and bottom are needing to be replaced.
You are missing the wheel hub.
Check this thread if you want more info.

I don’t think those are G60s (a 2-piston caliper), the mounting holes are different, and those are 4-piston calipers that don’t look to me like a floating caliper design.
Those look much more substantial to me. _________________ 1986 Syncro westfauxlia EJ22

I think you may be right. Good Catch I obviously need more coffee.
The bleed port looks different too
It is this caliper. $55.00 Advance Auto Unloaded Caliper.

Read the reviews by customers. One guy mentions Toyota. _________________ This free advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

The fasteners on the calipers look Japanese. I'd guess they are Toyota whatevers. _________________ Casey--

Those are parts used in the "Jaguar" type brake swap. The Toyota caliper is very similar. Your hub is the turned down original brake rotor. It's far from plug and play, but delivers good results from what I read.

Thanks everyone for all your time and help! You guys are great! If only you could help me find my affordable early bay single cab now? Haha! Had to throw that little plug in!
So, it appears that I have some very hard to find a buyer for calibers and rotors, that sucks! I want them gone, out of my garage. I'm not sure what the previous owner of the van was thinking.
So, to sum it up! This appears to be what I have to get rid of.
The rotors may fit a Mercedes 300CE 90-93 / C320 05-05, front disc, 5 x 4.41" bolt pattern. Anyone interested?
The calibers may fit a Toyota pick up 88-95. Anyone interested?
The spindles are German, and I can take more pictures for you if you are interested?
Thanks again everyone!! _________________ 85 Westy |
