|
|
Hi all,
I have a 2003 Jetta with the AVH 2.0L engine.
There are a couple of fuel hoses that run to the fuel pressure regulator and fuel rail. These two hoses plus a third hose (evap hose?) are bundled together by shrink wrap or something.
Mine are cracking from age (they're probably original).
Depending on the vendor, this bundle of hoses sells for about $250 to $370.
These hoses look to me like 7mm(?) fuel-injection-rated fuel hose. Sure, the bends are formed and the three pieces are bundled together... but couldn't I just make it work with some generic (good quality) fuel-injection hose?
Don't hesitate to tell me this is a stupid idea! _________________ 1971 Super Beetle |

Stupid idea! Most fuel hoses aren’t rated for the pressures that VWs fuel systems run at & they actually say “not for use on high pressure systems”. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

Except for the new direct injected engines [which normally runs metal lines] I see no reason not to use high pressure fuel hose. Of course, the hose rating would be important. |

This is what I'm thinking.
It is a gasoline, port-injected engine. The pump pressure should peak around 45 psi, and normally sit around 35 psi. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Typical SAE J30R9 hose has pressure ratings like these:
Working Pressure: 145 psi or 10 bar
Bursting Pressure: 725 psi or 50 bar _________________ 1971 Super Beetle |

Any fuel hose that is held in place by that style of clamp can't have that high of a pressure inside the hose. I would be more worried about whether the hose was properly rated for the fluid it was to be carrying. |
