@ImAddicted

She was, but now she’s nice and clean again. Even rebuilt the passenger wheel bearing after burying that tire during the trip. She’s all ready for this weekend’s adventure!

All loaded up and ready for this weekend’s adventure. We are headed to Ridgeway, Co to vend at the Ridgeway Rendezvous, which is a juried art show. It’s been a while since we last vended, seeing how COVID canceled everything. We are stoked to get back at it!!!

We are sitting fat and sagging like a champ!

Looked like a fun trip and nice variety of campers doing it! These buses are great on back roads. Cool

Thanks, it was a blast! I love the 4 wheel independent suspension of a bus off road.

Totally! But, I have to say besides the heavy load the engine didn’t work that hard. It crushed the drive.

We drove 100 miles over 3 mountain passes, topping out at 11,017’. We used no oil and about 1/3 a tank of fuel. We saw a high oil temp of 240* climbing the first pass. That quickly dropped to 180* while descending that pass. After that the highest we saw was 220*. Highest head temp was 378* and the lowest was 199*. Even though we were loaded to the max, we still had plenty of power to climb the passes.

We were able to secure a camp site in vendor camping in town right next to the event. Looks like we’ll be riding bikes around town all weekend, holla!

We made it home safely. Wifeys booth did excellent, she had her best single day sales ever on Saturday and she did great today too. We’ll definitely be doing this event again and again. The bus was a pleasure to drive, sleep in, hang out in and it absolutely dominated the mountain passes.

Total miles: 170
Gas: 3/4 of a tank
Oil consumption: 0
Repairs: 0 Dancing
Mountain passes crossed: 6
Highest elevation: 11,017’

Wifeys booth

Vendor camping wasn’t glorious, but we were right next to the event and got to ride bikes all weekend.

Next adventure starts on Friday. That one should be around 900 miles round trip.

Packed and on the road. We are headed Greeley, Co 400 miles away in the north east corner of the state for a family reunion. We’re planning on stopping in Denver for lunch and to do some school shopping for Miles.

Thanks Manfred!

350 miles, 6 1/2 hours and 5 mountain passes later we made it to Denver and we got 20 MPG!!!! The bus ran nice and cool and absolutely crushed the drive. I think this was the longest single day drive we’ve taken with this bus. Peryl is an absolute pleasure to drive. It’s smooth, quite (for a bus), has great heat, great stereo, drives straight, shifts smooth, gets great gas mileage and has a ton of power!!!!!

We hit 220* on a few climbs, but the temp quickly fell back to 180*. This is how the gauges looked most of the time.

had a 1971 dual port and that is what makes it so nice driving them. They just go and go and go. Then the next rebuild only takes a fraction of the time compared to rebuilding a T4. Not a lot of smog gear. I'll take those numbers all day long in a T1 bus. Smile

Made it home, that was a long drive. Drove up on Friday, spent 2 nights camping on Uncle Cliffs farm and hightailed it back today. Uncle Cliffs farm use to be a Christmas tree farm, now it’s a hemp farm. Our campsite was right next to 3 acres of hemp. The CDB company Charlotte‘s Web leases his land to grow all their experimental strains. It was pretty cool!

The drive today was great, besides the head wind for 200 miles. The bus did great, the head wind did raise my oil temp some but it was still within reason. We were able to fill up in Conifer at the Supermarket gas station and paid $3.04 a gallon for 91 with our reward points. That was the cheapest I’ve paid in a long time. Way better then the $4.65 in Telluride. We stopped in Salida and had lunch at The Boathouse, the food was excellent.

Trip stats:

Total millage: 817
Oil consumption: none
Mpg: 19 (head wind the whole way home)
Oil temps: 160*-230*
Head temps: 180*-390*
Repairs: 0
Mountain passes crossed: 10
Acres of hemp: 3
Family reunion: excellent!

Next adventure in 10 days. We will be vending at the Four Corners Folk Fest in Pagosa Springs. Gonna be 6 days and 5 nights, festival!!!

Great day at the graveyard. Mtnbus and I cruised over to Cortez and had lunch before we went to the yard. Once we got there we walked around to see what was there. He was there to get some parts for a ‘71 deluxe he’s building and I was there to look at a car. We spent 3 hours there and ended up with a nice score. Mtnbus got pretty much all the stuff on his list and I bought a ‘65 Beetle. The owner of the yard never let anyone pick off this car and it is unmolested with all the parts. Everything but an engine that is. The interior is all there, but it needs to be reupholstered, new carpet and the head liner. But, all the knobs and levers are all there. I also got OG beetle heat exchangers, OG beetle exhaust and all the OG dual port tin I need for an engine build. Think I’m gonna clean up the paint a bit and run the patina, redo the interior, redo the brakes, new wheel bearings and stab a 2109cc in it. I’ll start a build thread in the beetle forum. I will be delivered to me on Sunday!
