Looks to me that '66-'67 type 3 front seat bottoms are almost identical to my 412. Has anyone used the type 3 horse hair padding to replace the type 4 bottom padding? I am using my original seat covers so looking for a very stock fit. It is nice that this material is preformed.

They are not identical....the type 4 seat bottoms are slightly wider and and asymmetrical toward the inside I think....but they are close enough that you can tweak it around. And it is the right material. Ray

Hey, thanks Ray. Yeah, I measured the front seats out of my ‘66 squareback and was very close… close enough to use the seat padding that’s available out there. I’ll make it work. Alot less time consuming and hassle than trying to make your own.

I found out that ISPWest does not supply the fiber (horsehair) seat pads, they come from TMI and are a foam type material and was suggested that fiber is better for appearance, fit, etc…. ISP said I need to look at WolfsburgWest for original type padding. They don’t make type 3 pads but I could use late beetle ‘73-‘75 which are close. I measured my ‘75 SB seats and the bottoms for the front are indeed close. May have to go this direction.
