Hello folks. I have a 54 Bug with a junk motor. I'm putting a rebuilt 1300 I had in the garage in it temporarily until I can fix the 36hp. The 1300 had no generator assembly so I removed the generator/fan setup off the 36hp and installed it in the 1300's fan housing. If There is an 1/4 inch or so gap between the bottom of the generator and the stand. The fan housing is seated all the way in and I cant find what is causing this, plus if I try to install the belt it it causes the fan to bind. Is there another type of 6V generator tin and generator setup I'll need to make this all work? I've been told the 36hp fan is more narrow so I found a correct one. Sorry for the long and probably dumb question but I've got to get this thing running, and fast...! |

I checked before I put the fan and generator together, it is a 6 volt stand. I sat the generator in it and it fit perfectly. The generator had been replaced in the 36hp and has a later pulley already installed, sorry I should have mentioned both these things... |

The fan shroud is off a 1300 as far as I can recall, I had taken one apart some time ago. |

If all is how you say it is,it should fit.Look for an obstruction.By 1300,is it a 40hp or a real 1300 (69 stroke x 77 pistons)?Look at the engine # below the generator stand.Plain # = 40hp,letter prefix before # =1300 or bigger. Is the shroud fresh air or stale air (stale air 40hp will look like your 36 shroud, but will have holes for the plastic plug wire holders)? A 36hp shroud will not fit on 40hp and bigger unless you do some serious grinding. _________________ 30 years experience in the sales of new and used auto parts!

The engine is indeed a 66 1300, its got the F prefix before the number. The fan shroud is the fresh air style with the outlets for the preheat hoses. Yeah I first tried the 36hp shroud originally and noticed the bottom was without the notch for the center rib on the engine case. This is a wierd problem. I've put a couple of motors like this together and not come across it before. |

I have a generator tin / backing plate & I’m hoping to know the correct application.
I saw this gallery pic (see text below pic):
Bug (top) vs. Bus (bottom)
Bug mounting points are rotated a small amount to allow for distributor vacuum advance tube clearance.
Bus mounting points are vertical
The tin I have has holes even more rotated.
Unknown = top pic, I’m holding a nail in my 2nd pic to show the flange is close to the rib (more rotated than the 1st pic, up top)
Bus (12 o’clock/6 o’clock)= bottom pic

The tin with the rotated generator mounting holes is for a '66, so the voltage regulator can clear the electric cut-off switch on the side of the 30 PICT-1 carburetor. _________________ Thanks,

August 3rd 1965 was the first use of a 105 mm generator.
This is for 90 mm generator (I checked).
I searched images of the following part numbers (after looking at parts lists)
111 119 261
113 119 261b
I couldn’t tell what to make of it. _________________ aka: Evan

36hp have the v- reg straight on top ( manual choke)
40hp have the v- reg clock off to the side for electric choke
Either one will fit bug or bus. They are the same |
