Not really happy with the fuel pedal it is 1965 dune bug and by looking at it and driving the gas pedal leaves a bit to be desired
Any input would be great it is in a thunder bug glass Myers knockoff is it worth buying all the pins and springs or should I buy a new ? One piece aluminum set up
Mostly street driven
Is there a fairly easy upgrade? |

I just use a "roller" pedal, it does away with all the rods and springs...

I installed the later stamped style pedal assembly in my 64 pan. Those came with a steel pedal originally.
CB Performance sells a "Turbo Pedal" that will replace the original pedal. Of course, like most aftermarket parts, it needs a little shimming and grinding to fit and get the cable travel correct. Nothing too serious though.

I added a washer to move the pedal assembly out to clear the pan and filed the stops on the roller arm to get the travel right but otherwise it has worked well for probably eight years.
I also shimmed the roller arm to tighten that up a bit. I just used some washers and the thinner wavy washers to take up the slack.

I use a cheap roller pedal that was in the buggy when I got it ... but shimmed to get rid of the floppyness. Never really gave it much thought about needing anything else. _________________ Brian

No room for an actual gas pedal in my super short buggy; even the usual roller is too bulky. So I cobbled a smaller diameter roller using the core from a receipt printer paper roll. Did that 36 years ago; been working just fine for over 200,000 miles.

Yup. It's an easy upgrade. I bought a "rebuild kit" for the gas pedal and it came with an absolutely horrible plastic pedal. I recently picked up a used OEM German gas pedal and it works beautifully.
Re: roller pedals. Some folks like 'em, others don't. Many years ago, I bought one because they were fashionable and tried it. I didn't like it at all. To me it offered little control. I just didn't like the way it "felt". Try it though and form your own opinion. |
