Hi fellow enthusiasts. I wanted to introduce myself as a new TheSamba.com member. I ran around in my 20's in Southern California during the Cal Look era of the 70's and 80's. I had built many cars that made it into Hot VWs and VW Trends. Maybe some of the older members here remember the Whittier and Van Nuys Blvd Saturday nights, we all had so much fun as kids.
It's so nice to see the photos on this forum, it brings me back almost 50 years. If anyone remembers my Ghia, give a shout out. Nice to see our passion has lasted through the years.

Welcome back! Yes, Karmann Ghias are still popular and are now starting to draw even more interest from the overall classic car world. Good ones are getting harder to find, and current prices are reflecting the wider range of interest from enthusiasts.
Looks like you have skills, so bringing a car back from the brink shouldn't be a problem if that's where you're headed. Still quite a few rusty beaters out there waiting to be restored _________________ '63 Ragtop (current)

This 70 cal look Ghia was the stuff of my teenage fantasies circa 1989!

Thanks King! I originally posted this thread on the day I joined TheSamba back in early June. In a few short months, I feel like I have got to know most of the regulars here and have always felt welcomed.
I read and read everyday to try to learn about my newest KG fixing things that the PO had butchered. Any questions I have had are all answered here. I love this forum. _________________ The older I get... The faster I was... |

I really like the look of the magneto with 48's.
a classic 'last century' paint job.
good to see the pictures, when you posted in my thread I didn't realise it was your old car! |

I have been out of the VW circuit for nearly 30 years. Life has a way of bringing you back full circle. My Ghia heydays were back in the 80's in SoCal where Cal Look was born.I had so many Ghias back then I wish I still had everyone. These were my daily's.

Will your current Ghia be closer to stock than your fabulous Ghia seen here?
What about the engine- a warmed over near-stocker or still going for a tire-ripping setup like the IDA-powered one?
Is that you cleaning the front wheel? |

Life is a full circle I guess. The Ghia is just in my blood.

No plans on a any high horsepower engine on this one. Just a complete stocker that the Mrs. and I drive around. If I did I would run a Kawell turbo. I had the 550 HP 2 liter before. That was my Pro Turbo running at Firebird Raceway in the early 90's in the shot below.
Yeah that is me in my 20's in that VW Trends cover shot. Good times.

I been looking for a new member introduction thread. I just joined from SoCal area, and am looking for a project to have some fun with and bring back some fun High School memories. I always appreciated Gaia’s and may include those in my searches as well. |

@ Overboost
What happened to your cars?
And what happened to the blondes?
Not to offend.
I assume one is yours. _________________ Volkswagen!

Those cars all sold. Mostly the Japanese market took them and exported them when I let them go.
My next chapter was to graduate to Porsche and eventually to Ferrari cars. 30+ years later, I am back to a couple of nice BMW's, a Yamaha R6 Raven and my little rusty KG.
The girls in that cover shoot were brought in by VW Trends, I really didn't know any of them. Living the surf rat life back then in HB, it was just another day of hot chicks in bikinis. _________________ The older I get... The faster I was... |

Cool to have you back! I thought the car wash scene was from a Johnny’s Speed and Chrome catalog shoot. Maybe you’ll catch the drag bug, again. _________________ 1973 standard, yellow, lowered, 3” narrowed front, 1600 blo-thru turbo w/single dell 15.4@86, so far
