Hello all,

Last night I put up my TTS vinyl top while it was cool.

Just now I discovered a 3 inch rip above the rear right side.

How is the best way to repair this?

I have a friend that repairs canvas tents and has large enough needles to sew leather too.

Thank you in advance for your ideas.

Das

You live an learn.

Don't put the top up in the cold and force it or it will tear. Put it up on a sunny day and let it stretch before you latch it or use a hair dryer or heat gun.

Go to ebay and look for Tear Aid Type B for vinyl. You have a vinyl top not canvas. It is a clear tape you apply and works well. You can buy it in sheets or strips from sellers on Ebay.

Patch it from the inside with some heavy tape that the pieces will adhere to. I suppose you also could take another piece of vinyl and and glue the torn pieces to it from the inside. If there is a boat shop around where you live, you could stop and ask them. They've probably seen similar many times.

Down & dirty temporary fix, Flex tape.

I have patched many tops with cuts and tears like yours by using Gorilla duct tape on the inside. Get someone to hold a block of wood (or a book) against the outside while you use a wooden wallpaper seam roller from the inside to provide concentrated pressure to bond the adhesive.
