I what is left of a 59 bus that has a late model two bolt mount on the torsion tube. does that mean that some time in 59 they they updated the nose cone on the split style transmission ? I don't have the original transmission any more because it had a big nut in it when i got it . m plate =04 06 9 4780xx

IIRC, it was sometime in late August 59 that the tunnel trans became standard in buses.

Edit: Wrong! See later posts below.

Yes. Sometime in mid-1959. I have an April '59 single cab and it has the early mount.

I might be wrong but I thought the tunnel transmission started sometime in mid 60 "61 model year" . But maybe they used a beetle nose cone on a split transmission from the factory from some time after April or May 59 busses.

splitcase was used through mid May 1959.

I couldn't find an exact date or VIN # though in a few threads I researched

I'm pretty certain that the change from "splitcase" to "tunnel" transaxle case happened with the end of the 36hp engine and the introduction of the new "Bastard" 40hp engine on May 19th, 1959.
