Hope this doesn’t go straight to the ‘stupid questions’ thread …
Trying to get my head around how much oil to add at oil change. Deep sump, external oil cooler, a couple feet of hose to the oil cooler and back, external filter …
To get in the ballpark, is it a question of just adding standard case volume (what, 2.5 quarts) plus the volume of the sump plus the volume of the oil cooler and hoses?
Or am I overthinking it — just fill till the dipstick says “enough”? |

Ideally you do your oil at a place where if you go with the dipstick says enough method and you do overfill it, you can just leak out a bit at a time into the drain pan till the dipstick is happy. _________________ 1967 Riveria Camper |

But to answer your question, mine takes a little under 2 quarts with STP. _________________ 1967 Riveria Camper |

Do you have a 1.5qt sump?
Then put in 4 quarts (2.5 + 1.5), also refill the filter before installing.
Start the engine and let run for a few seconds.
Do you have a thermostat between the filter and the cooler? If so you need to wait for the thermostat to open.
Turn off, let cool and check the dipstick.
Top up if needed. _________________ Glenn
