I like your pet lion. Laughing

LOL! Laughing

That is a puppy we shouldn't have gotten because we don't have time to really train her.

Putting her on a sit/stay for the picture,
she really has no idea if she's doing what she's supposed to,
And is very apprehensive.

If you knew her, the look on her face right there is priceless..
"I'm doing what you want me to, right, dad?"

Very Happy

They just got those in, I use those in Mendi's when I can't get 091's. You have to machine the first gear side.

You mean the late style.. When you use them in Mendeolas or 091s, correct?

I shouldn't have to machine anything to use a late 1-2 slider on regular 002 gears, right?

Buy, they sure are pretty.
When i took that new slider out of it's little wrapper i didn't even know what to do with something so precious.
So i cleaned it in gas (of course)! Razz

Got the case back from sandblast.. $50.
Thinking it might just be pretty enough to use like this?

Shows why people rarely go to lengths to detail these.
What a ton of work that would be...!

I've never had luck painting or powder or anything over a mag casting;
Off-gasses and peeling.. Looks horrible every time.
Plus, seems that any help shedding head would be welcome,
And paint is like an insulating blanket.

Only reason i still kind of want the case glass-beaded or vapor blasted is to help shed the inevitable oily stains that will accumulate.
If the surface is a little peened and shiny it might not accumulate so much grime..?

Yeah, i know, none of this 'finish' stuff matters..

That thing will be a corroded mess in no time without any protection on it. Electrollisis is gonna kill it.

What's your favorite coating?

There's Alodine, but that's beyond the scope of this project.

All i can think of is WD-40..

Who knows what this wax is some people use?

You do have a point there. Cool
Looks way better than goopy wax running off.

I'm only a block from the ocean; Everything gets crusty fast.

Guess i could drag the gun out this weekend..
Have some single-stage gloss black here;
Maybe a dusting of epoxy for adhesion?

Think

2K single stage with epoxy under it would hold up well and is a great choice. Don't skimp on the epoxy, a little more than a mist but not a very thick coat. After a blast is the perfect time to do this. It won't peal. That casting is so old gassing off shouldn't be a problem at all.

I'm another vote for Gibbs, simple, effective. and I like the colour the magnesium goes. Over time it is the classic halibrand wheel colour

There the 'failed' trans, built by one of the big rebuilders, has what looks like rattle-can black.
Might be from a gun? Maybe?
This was run for a very short time, (it failed right away) then kept inside for a few years.
After being cleaned, it sat outside for about a week.
Not sure how it was prepped, but the finish is definitely starting to fail.

You sure were right..
I left the case outside, and it looked like this after only one night.

Think I'll try the Gibbs on this one since it's a first-try/experiment anyways..

Got my new lock-ring pliers in.
The little circle divot makes all the difference.

Still have a project of taking down a big shelving unit to retrieve one of those NLA main-shaft lock rings that slipped and flew away behind it!! Mad

Not as total precision/Porsche in looks/finish as a Snap-On tool, but feels like it, and sure makes those lock-rings easier.
If Snap-On had any i'd a ordered some.

The old slippy Craftsman ones just can't compare.

Lang 1409. Cool
