awesome van, it turned out amazing! I'm working on a (much smaller) restoration on my van and your thread has been a real inspiration - love seeing it come together!
What are your plans for the camper interior? Stock westy cabinets? custom? |

A bit of parts cleaning/restoration over the past week.
My van did not come with power steering, but I managed to track down all of the parts, pump, rack, lines, reservoir etc. The final piece of the puzzle was to get some PS spindles which I managed to get hold of, including discs and callipers. They were all pretty cruddy so I cleaned them all up.
The end result

Next up some electrical work.
This is a wiring schematic that I have been working on for the camper fit out.
Please feel free to pitch in with any comments where you think it can be improved, eg fuse size for the house battery too small. I’m thinking of upping the inverter to 2000w. The batteries are 2 x 100Ah LiFePo. |

Still pressing on with this project. While I have been waiting for my engineer I decided to replace all of the main cooling lines.
The plastic lines were in pretty good condition so I left them in place for now, I will likely replace with SS at some point in the future. |

Sorry folks it has been a while since my last post, I tore a tendon in my shoulder back in Oct that then required some surgery in Nov and as a result I have not been able to do much on the van. That being said, I was able to get an engineer to certify all of the modifications (Westfalia roof, wheels, tyres, light bar, swing away etc), and so on Fri of last week I was finally able to get the van registered, and can now drive it (legally) on the road.
The following pics were taken this morning ahead of its maiden public outing at a local historic car show. I still need to fit out the camper interior, and before I went in for surgery I managed to knock up out of 12mm ply wood a complete set of cabinets based on the Westfalia design. My intent now is to take those “templates” to someone who can do a professional job … I’m hoping to get this done over the next few months. In the meantime though I just intend on driving around and enjoying life in the slow lane.
Hope you are all well

Good on you for your dedication to getting it done. Looks great.
I know the passenger going to have a blast driving it! 😉 _________________ This free advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

I don't know how to say this, but you put the steering wheel on the wrong side! Truly impressive work! _________________ '90 White Westy ("Knarr")

How can it be the wrong side when it's on the right side? You have one hour. _________________ Silicone Steering Boots and 930 Cv boots for sale in the classifieds.

A few weekends ago the battery light on the dash started flickering intermittently. I guess this should have been no surprise because for a while now I have listening to the alternator make some bad noises. I guess the flashing red light forced my hand so I pulled it all apart over the weekend and replaced the bearings (they were bad), replaced the voltage regulator (the brushes has almost worn down to the springs), and had the slip rings machined (don't even go there)....All good now for another ?????km
