I have searched and can't seem to find anything that mounts in the three holes in the front deck lid pictured below
Can anyone shed some light on this?

It certainly is an unusual spot for a hood ornament. Is that fresh paint? A pity if it is... You might have to fix and repaint.

I would imagine it was for an aftermarket wing person or ornament.
these kind of things https://www.google.com/search?rls=en&source=un...mp;bih=789

I'll be interested with what you decide to put there Wink

very nice paint job, what's the colour?

Yes it is a new paint job, actually I'm still sanding and buffing it after 6 months of body work. It looked like factory holes so I never gave it a second thought until now!
Man, hopefully someone has some good news Shocked
I don't think I will be filling and repainting.
The color is Ford Dark Shadow Grey metallic.

So sorry, but these are some sort of custom modification. If it was me, I would just do a proper fix now while all the paint is fresh. It would haunt me forever otherwise.

Oh the pain! First paint job and things were going so well.
I have the American window chrome molding the came with the car and was thinking about going with it so maybe I'll see what I can come up with before its all said and done. Maybe I can find a cool ornament, or a strip of body molding from the side, or who knows. It does seem a little high though. If all else fails I can just remove the hood and fix it I guess.
Open to ideas while I continue working... Anxious

You could put some of them chrome/shiny pointy things in the holes.
At least that would discourage people from sitting on your hood.

I did come across several beetle hood ornaments with VW and wings or rockets but hadn't seen the Wirbulator. Looks like it would be too far from the windshield but might have been!
Please keep the ideas coming, I definitely cant leave the holes!

Like this one? It worked well on my '56 Beetle due to it being close to the windshield, but would look really out of place on the otherwise elegant Ghia hood.

This ornament would better fit your intentions about the "to hell with you" attitude, but would look ostentatious on the Ghia. Was sold by JC Whitney into the 1990's.
