That is a weird wheel. Does it have any stampings?

I vote white. Based on how my '78 Champagne Westy had white wheels that matched the top half.

I would paint the wheels silver to break up all that white and green

I didn’t know it cost that much for paint nowadays, you better prep it the good way and avoid any reaction 😬
But I guess it’s not your 1st time.
Did you rent a cabin for this or will you let the paint cure at room temperature?

I agree, its all about the prep. This is the third bus I have painted so I feel pretty good about going at this one. You never know what happens though. even the pros mess it up sometimes. Fingers crossed and I will be taking my time over the next 4 days.

On my last build it was a Champagne Westy and I did them white. I think I will hold off on the wheels till the bus is done then play with some color options. The rim is stamped with Vw and 01/71 but the inside part around the hub is strange for sure.

tonight I got most of the spray booth setup done. I still need to cover some of the floor and seal it up. I will be using filters on the side by the front to help with dust and this fan can mover some serious air. There will be filers on the fan also. I'm pretty happy with the set up and the air drier is working amazing taking all the moister out of the line. Now its just up to the operator behind the spray gun to get it right.

the black product is a rust sealer, I put this on after applying phosphoric acid to the surface rust to neutralize the chemical reaction of the rust. This will help in the areas busses are known for rusting.

I have been considering that, even a pewter color could be cool.

Every time I paint one of these I always forget about the amount of work needed to make it correct. The primer 2k primer is down, now I need to block it down AGAIN. Hopefully just after lunch I can go into color. Its getting there.

What a day today, I was able to lay down the interior paint and clear coat. I had back masked off the exterior in an attempt to minimize my prep on the exterior tomorrow. I really like the green color, pretty concerned about the tan. In all the swatches and sample vehicles it sure seemed a lot lighter. Hard to turn back now. I need to trust my gut and keep on spraying. What do you all think? Too dark??

I for one really like that interior color. It's going to look great with the outer color. Razz

well you guys were correct, all said and done I love the color combination. Im tired, today I sprayed for 12 hours strait but here are the end results. Keep in mind I had to use a larger tip for the clear so there is some orange peel. that will easily be wet sanded and buffed to a mirror. What do you think?

Wow, its my bus sibling. Yours looks awesome, do you have some more picutures of the engine and interior? Were did you get the mud flaps from?

Cleaned the shop today and put all the tools away. I did a test patch with 1000 grit to start and finish with 2000, I think the peel will cut down pretty easily. I do need to get foam pad for the DA to help keep it from cutting too fast though. That will have to wait till next weekend though. My plan is to start organizing all the parts to install over the next couple of nights. So many boxes!
