You could cut 100 lbs of inner fenders/gas tank off of it rather than adding 100 lbs of steel fenders/hood/apron.
Stay away from the fugly hood pins!
What kind of bumpers are you planning to run?

My understanding from the previous owner is that the front end is already pretty light especially with the 1800cc engine. He and his family were big into the local drag racing scene, and a lot of teenage paychecks went into the car.
Hood Pins, no. But I retired from aviation, so 1/4- turn dzus panel fasteners make sense, a Monza style filler port instead of what is going on with that fuel door.
My vision for this is a period rally car, streetable but capable. So a bumper that fits that vibe. I'll likely have to fabricate it. |

I do agree with keeping the 100 lbs in front to help balance out the 300 lb engine in back.
You can buy these curved bumpers ready made but I think the crossbar is custom?
Round stainless pipe makes good looking bumpers?
I hope you can see my Imgur picture of this '57 oval window ragtop we bought in Junction City?

I see it. My neighbor has a 56 convertible.
I have a welder and can fab up what I need once I get to that point.
but there is far more to do before I get to that point. |

Had to make room in the shop for a place to work on the car.
Was able to carve out a small area near the door, for easy walking distance. As you can see, the car is on ramps to access underneath. Once it starts cooling down, actual work can begin.

Pulled the carpets, insulation and door cards.
It is not as bad as I expected.

That's a good starting list. Keep in mind that raising the car is the reverse of dropping it, so that's just a matter of searching for the drop method you want to use. The rear will be harder, only because of the extra work required. The rest of your list is also just a matter of doing a search, as it's probably been covered in part or whole. I like the plan, and the "hit list" will help keep you on track.
I'm not sure how the 7.00x15's will work out, but that's just something you'll have to try. I'm running 205-65-15 street tires on the rear of my Notch, just to give you an idea of what you can fit in the rear.
Mike has the right idea of building the front bumper out of stainless tubing, especially if you're going to build that "over rider" part. You might want to get with Brian Fye, about where to get a decent priced cage, as he's in your area and can help you out on that. He's building a red drag Notch, shown in his build thread.
I hope this helps. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

thanks.
It is only a starting point. Things will definitely change as the build progresses.
I am about to address the surface rust and start rolling protective paint on the pan, which is not listed, but implied before laying out soundproofing/insulation.
The cage has not been definitely decided yet as well as just what design of bumper to go with.
Like I said, it is a starting point. I did manage to get a foot plate made. So I go that going for me.

It has been a while since I have posted anything
I have been slowly getting the engine sorted out. I have since learned that is has a fairly well-put together 1776cc engine in it and the bores and heads are in decent shape. It is getting fresh gaskets and seals, an oil pump and a Gene Berg sump that I found in the boxes of spares.
The DRLAs have been rebuild and mounted on GB 580A intakes, with a set of CB sand rated intake filters.
Additionally, I had some wire mesh that I welded to a pair of headlight rings and mounted to the front clip.
Yup, progress is progress.

Engine went back into the car today. I needed to ensure to air cleaners will fit (they don't but it is workable) and the car is going into storage while we relocate.

Your level of organization is fascinating to me. I so need to get my sheet together and you are my inspiration.
Tomorrow I'm getting more storage with lotsa drawers.
I'm guessing the USMC air freshener is the clue to the source of your focus.
:salute: (or is that inappropriate from a civilian?)
Thanks for your service!? |

To be honest, the parts organization is only part me.
When I bought the car, it came with a garage full of spares, already organized into those drawer units and peanut butter jars. I simply stacked them on the bench and labeled the jars. I did have to go through it all and see what was what. So now I have a good idea where everything is.
Yes, I served in the Marines and retired from the Army. to be honest, I do not miss it. |

I'm late to the party...Reading your list, I would recommend replacing the soft brake lines, and even upgrading them to the braided stainless sleeved teflon lines. Hope your move goes well and you get back to fun things before you expected. |
