My Dad has just bought a set of Newton carpets for his 1961 RHD Ghia coupe. There is no allowance for the floor mounted headlight dip (high beam) switch. Does anyone have a photograph of how the original carpet was made in this area please? We're not sure if there should be a grommet in the carpet or if the dip switch should be fitted on top of the carpet and a small hole punched through for the wires, which is what Newton has suggested to him. Thank you in advance. |

Ghias never had carpet right behind the pedals and around the dimmer switch. A rubber mat was the only thing covering that area.
You can do whatever you want to accommodate the switch, since that spot was never carpeted in the first place. An auto upholstery shop should be able to cut a hole for the switch and trim it out with a suitable vinyl grommet.

This seems like a very odd place to put the dimmer switch. I've never driven a Right Hand Drive car, but how do you get around the clutch pedal to use the switch? Fin fact, I don't see any convenient area for the switch with a RHD? _________________ Marc

Its a proper PITA manoeuvring your foot around the clutch. My '61 had that and I hated it. Fortunately the '66 has a button on the flasher stalk and a headlight relay featuring a toggle function. Much nicer to use.
