This video of a yellow Vanagon rally racer came across my feed this morning. Does anyone know more about this vehicle, in particular what drivetrain they're running? It looks and sounds awesome!

I saw a pic with the hatch open.
Its a Tube-framed race car with a Vanagon skin.
I always like seeing it, but its not a Vanagon.
Ive wondered if the driver really sits over a front wheel?
That can’t be a good place, but from the middle theres no visibility. _________________

Is it front wheel drive? where's the rear drive axle? I see the trailing arms have large spaces for CV axles, but I certainly don't see any.
In the video I spy what I think is a rear CV boot next to the transaxle.
Also looks like an e39 m5 S62 engine in there. 400hp. No wonder it accelerates with authority. _________________ '87 Syncro

Notice there are sliding doors on both sides, but with no handles. Each has what appears to be 4 latches allowing the sides to come completely off. And no sign of a driver in the OG T3 position. You only need to look ahead for this race so maybe sitting in the middle between the wheels is close enough. Bet it's loud in there.
What we need now is a T3 fiberglass body at twice normal size pasted over a something to make a monster truck. Maybe a Doka at 2 X?
When my next T3 is electric, I'll have a sound system which sounds like this yellow monster coupled to the accelerator so the throatiness is right. |

The body is mostly carbon fiber. His front doors weigh something like 6KG each. |

Carbon fiber--Wow. Guess I better have that for my E T3. |

Hard to tell from the pic but looks like a fully boxed in trailing arm. The axle is inside?

Somebody posted these pics in the "vw syncro" group in Facebook (taken at Busfest 2021). Initially I thought it was the same van, but there seem to be some differences (though the fan intake at the rear seems to align with the radiator shown in the previous pics). Close cousin perhaps?

I believe there were 3 versions of this van, one being more syncro than a rallye machine and the other rallye rig ran a mid engine VR6 while this one I believe might be a 4.2 audi v8. |

anyone with Instagram, go check out @autobildde
There’s a Hot Wheels Legends of Germany vote going on to make a hot wheels car out of the rally version syncro. Like the post and that’s your vote.
There’s also a cool video showing some more details of the build.

I like the last one here.. the former one was special build, mid - engined and obviously not stock in more ways than just the obvious. The shell looks like a T3. Thats about it. The last one could actually be a Syncro. Cool!! But, lets keep in mind that whom ever was driving that rig through the course OBVIOUSLY didn't deflate!! Maybe the course was far too easy? Still, I love all of these! Regardless!!

I just want to see what happens when he lights the afterburner on that engine!
