Getting all the panels sorted, planning the stages of restoration to come and fabrication ahead. Going over the deck lid to get a cursory idea of what will eventually be needed in fitment. I have been designing a table I will soon be cutting out on the cnc plazma table. This will ensure proper, precise fitment as well as jigging for welding and body re construction. With this surface plate table I will fabricate this Cabriolet, as well as other hand built cars for years to come. For now just getting back to where we last left off. Then the real fun can resume.😁

It’s been again some time since I have had to get to work on the Cabriolet restoration, but it has been worth it. I am just about to finish up one last project then be able to focus on the last phase of the Ghia. It should be about a month, but I will again be regularly here showing detailed processes in both fabrication and assembly. There is a lot of things to catch up on and I look forward to being back here with all you as soon as possible.

Little by little getting ready to get this car finished. You eat a elephant one bite at a time. Pulled the patterns and template pieces I had left off on. As far as the plans for the nose, I have a few different ideas. I would like to make it a accurate repeatable process, cause it may be of value to those in the early Ghia era restoration community. I am probably going to make a wooden buck so it will be repeatable. That will be a fun process in itself. I feel if you can do it “the old way” and learn from those still doing it the old way, you can learn a “new or better way” much easier down the road. We will always have time to learn it a new way. Right?

Yes John it’s great having people reach out with parts to continue the build how it was envisioned. Having established honest relationships over the decades of being in the art/hobby we all do, sometimes people see the vision and want the parts to go on this one. I think it’s kinda cool and adds to the story of this particular car which we all can watch get back on the road. I genuinely hope that the process and methods I choose to do, is at the very least entertaining but allows others to see things they can also do. Back to the story🤙🏻
So,,,,, The hood was part of a package and although later model with other hoods with solid frame the final product will be correct in ribs and look (we can go down that road at a later time). A set of 3pc European bumpers front and rear said to be off of a mid 58, A-pillar front wind shield, top mechanical frame, header bow, latch mechanism, and the B-pillar to B-pillar rear hoop. I have been making some patterns for the next phase of the build out. The goal will be the first fit of all the mix of parts/panels, plan for alterations and fabricate what correct patterns that will be needed to made parts, and what originally is from the car itself (which I know may not look like much), but that decision was made long ago. So with all the pieces old and new I have a couple of templates to follow for spot weld reference and assembly. It is a bit tedious but I really enjoy this work and challenging myself. The more you work with your hands the smarter they get. The sum of old, new, new old stock from various years will come together eventually either mixed, made, or restored.

Your process is incredible. It's obvious you love doing this kind of work. I'm completely in awe at your abilities and I could only understand it if I was actually there seeing each step you are doing. I looked forward to seeing your progress in hopes of learning as you go. Although I can honestly say, I don't have the courage to take on a project such as this.
