1600 DP. Type 1. - No emissions control garbage.
Real good compression (150 across the board).
Dual Kadrons set up by K.S.
Pertronix SVDA.
I've always leaned towards Bosch but lately I'm reading here and there that they are junk now.

If you can find the old stock Bosch German made they are probably ok. Really I think anything will do fine. I know a lot of guys here use NGK or Bosch or other brands. The guy at the VW shop here told me Bosch only but I’ve seen them do fine with other brands too. Mine came with Bosch and I got more with the car so that is what is going in there. Smile

Since you're running a non-Bosch distributor you may need a resister plug to keep noise out of your radio. A Bosch system has resistance built into the rotor button, or so I've read here in a few threads. Maybe others can lend a couple pennies.

No radio noise at all.

No radio noise at all.

Pertronix SVDA distributors come with a resistor rotor.

I have been having a lot of trouble finding non-resistor plugs for sale.
Every time I order my normal NGK B6HS, the order gets changed to BR6HS, Same for the Bosch W8AC.

Does any on here know of a different non-resistor plug being made, or if NGK or Bosch are making a non-resistor plug that would work for VWs?

I just worry I won't be able to get them at all soon, and I don't know what to do about it. I've tried to run the resistor type and they cause my poor baby some issues with starting, idling, etc...

I have a 73 SB 1600 DP with Pertronix SVDA

NGK stock # 7534 is or will be again in stock @ Rock Auto. If they're out you can click the box for them to let you know when they're back in stock. Meantime search around for some B5HS which is actually the hottest plug and even better for the stock 1600. Ebay has had plenty but they might slip a counterfeit in on ya if you're not being careful!

I like NGK BP5HS, non resistor, protruding tip. they seem to last longer and be more foul resistant.

Give this thread a read.

See if you can find some NGK 1052 (aka. B6HS-10).
Just be sure to check the gap before installing.
