Long time stalker (since 2005 kind of long time when I had a squareback) - first time poster.

I’ve got an early 68 beetle - the one with a single fuel filler hose that connects to the tank with the oval opening.

From other posts I was able to track down that 2 1/4 inch fuel filler hose will fit the oval. And it does cause I bought some - but 2 1/4 inch seems way too big for the other end that connects to where you fill from.

People that have gone this route of replacing with the 2 1/4 filler hose, how did you make it work?

I found this which I think might work - like the 2 1/4 inch end would go over the oval, then I’d need a 2” double barb to connect this hose to the filler neck I think. Or - would it be better to combine this with the angled elbow that’s on the later 68 and up (though I haven’t found the elbow for sale yet - only the hose for the elbow, but I bet it’s out there).

I also just saw this one:

It’s 12 1/2 inches long. I might just be able to trim a couple inches off of it and not even mess with a barb to connect two hoses together. The question with this one is more about whether 45 degrees is too sharp (or not sharp enough) of an angle to work.

Cut a piece from your old hose for the filler end and slip the 2 1/4" hose over it.

Give this thread a read…

I posted a SummitRacing link to a 6” long Tanks Inc. adapter hose. There is a pic showing how it can be used with a 2” elbow and a short length of 2” hose to get the angle you need.

This seems like the best solution. Trying to bend a straight hose is just asking for a leak. Same for mating rubber hose over rubber hose; this is not a good seal.

Okay - cool, what you did was what I was thinking in my first post. Will order the parts.

I did already order the part from my second post, cause I feel like 45 degrees might be the correct angle. But, once it gets here if it doesn’t look like it’ll work I’ll return it for the straight reducer and pick up an elbow and some 2” hose.
