So I bought a 66. Didn’t intend to, but couldn’t pass it up. Pretty original car. A lot of the parts missing in the pics are included with the car. My 10th air cooled VW.

Clearly going to need channels. Someone recently replaced the passenger floor, and patched the drivers pan. It’s still 6 volts still has what I’m pretty sure is the original 1300. My plan is to restore the pan, replace the channels, fix the little bit of rust, and drive it. A lot of the paint is original and I plan to leave it, and maybe blend any repairs. Of course, plans sometimes change so we’ll see what I do in the end. [/b]

Nice find. Some rust issues to deal with. But without looking up the engine number against the cassis number, I'd bet that was the original engine.

That polly tire is awesome.

Congrats on that. It’s an early 66 like mine - no emergency flasher. Any idea on the condition of the engine yet?

I think it’s a euro 66 based on the ignition switch being on the column.

The engine turns freely and it’s all there. I think I can get it to run. That’s my plan before I dig into it at all. Fresh oil, fresh gas, clean the plugs, and see if I can get it running.

The rust issues don’t bother me. I’ve dealt with much worse.

Lets go Very Happy its not a euro based on the bumper bracket holes on the apron but it could be a Tourist Deliver car. Nice car. Killer patina but shiny or as works. Nice car

Steering lock and missing 4-way flashers would ordinarily indicate a Euro car. They could be ordered with U.S. spec bumpers over there.

Tourist delivery cars were normally to U.S. spec.

No matter. Great to see it being saved!

My 66 also has the steering column lock/ignition switch and no flashers. Everything else appears to be US spec.

Nice. US Spec European Delivery. Usually this had the steering lock and red/amber tail lights. Have fun with it.

Love the optional and super rare wasp nest. I hear those take years to get.

Have fun with it.

Engine number would indicate a January 1966 build.

So I brought it home Sunday.

I cleaned and vacuumed it, and took an quick inventory of what came in the box of stuff that came with it. It clearly will need heater channels, and I most likely will replace the patched drivers side pan.

Cleaned the engine up a little.

Then I went and bought a used set of 3 fenders and a shifter for a great price.

I managed to piece together 2 bumpers, 2 headlights, and 2 tail lights from the parts in the box it came with. Then I put it in the garage so it is out of the weather.

Were those pans replaced at some point? They look decent despite the car's age!

Passenger side was replaced. Drivers side is original and someone welded a big patch over the hole.

Yeah, I went and looked at it with a friend who found it. I didn’t have a lot of hope for it, and went with the intention of saying one too many projects and I don’t want it. For the $500 the guy wanted, I couldn’t not buy it.

Yes sir. $500 and it was about 25 mins from my house. Doesn’t have a title yet, but still a steal for the price. It’s pretty much complete and has a free turning motor. Haven’t tried to get it running yet, but that’s next.

Your 10th VW and you bought that project. It is an understatement to say you certainly have a passion for VWs! Look forward to following your progress.
