|
|
I've tried searching the classifieds, as well as all the usual online shops, and I haven't found a source for the plastic trim-piece that covers the bottom-side of the armrest, where the adjuster knob sticks out.
1. Are these things available anywhere? Anyone got a spare?
2. Are they replaceable anyways, or is it a "rip the seat apart" operation to put another one on?
3. I didn't spot an obvious source for replacement armrests in grey...?
4. Or do I just source a "new" seat (yikes)?
I mean these black plastic bits (although this pic is from a eurovan):

Cannibalize from a dead seat and be careful. They are fragile. First crank the adjustment knob all the way in. Then take a pair of piers and straddle the adjustment shaft behind the knob. With a hammer tease the knob off. It's a pressed fit on a shallow splined shaft. It just goes back on with no problems. Then you will see the two philips head screws. Take them out and remove the plastic part. I just redid the armrests and had to put some fiberglass on the area under the knob as the plastic had broken away and the screw had nothing to hold onto. Worked great. |

Sounds like good candidate to be printed!
Someone here does this, send him a good one he can copy and get some new ones made.

all mine are cracked and in pretty rough shape. obviously not a totally essential part, but like to chip away at bringing my van back to it's former glory and swap out cracked or damaged bits as i'm able to. _________________ 1980 rusty light blue westfalia - sold

I repair mine with epoxy and cloth on the inside. If there are gaps, blue tape so the glass will go over the space and then fair it from the outside after the epoxy cures. Rattle can and hand it in. |

I had VERY bad luck with him years ago which cost me my modified 181 and another 1600 engine to boot. I would NEVER do business with him for anything over $25 as you could wind up on the short end like I did. |
