Hi,

I'm curious what Year/Make/Model to ask for at a parts counter, if I need to get parts for one of these engines at an auto parts store?

FAS is shut down until the 20th on Summer holiday, so I'm curious what all is available through an Autozone or NAPA.

Thanks,

Zach

Oh baby, it's a hodgepodge collection of goodies, so depending what you need, van Cafe can fit the bill for some basics.

Thank You for the list!!!!

My tiico (Audi 80 2.0 w 8v head) is having exhaust cracks
where the pipes meet the manifold.

I see that OEM VW manifolds have a metal bellows.
Assuming this is to address the stress cracks,
has anyone made a inline 4 exhaust that incorporates these bellows?

OR, for improved performance, a header?

I know the FAS exhaust exists, I am put off by the $$$$$$.
($699 for uncoated, unpainted and not stainless steel exhaust,
not including cat or muffler.... )

Hmmm, u sure you have a "tiico"? What injection are you running? Sounds like u are running digifant on a 80 block which is a nice combo btw.

I asked FAS about the bellows. They said they had seen cracking with them too. If I dig up the email I'll post it here

I used a flex joint in my exhaust. I just got it running this week, so I'll see how it holds up.

I have the FAS 4 bolt flange manifold exhaust. Thousands of miles on it and no cracks.

I think that the 6 bolt flange requires more complicated fabrication to get the pipe length and tuning correct.

The bellows are at the top of the header and different from the flex pipes further down near the cat.

I managed to find the response from FAS:

Rewelding my stock manifold for extra strength:

Extra welding has helped pipes in the past, but only after it's cracked...in terms of life expectancy, we've seen across the board- a few months, to years after being repaired.

Bellows:
We've heard mixed results with the header bellows...not sure about fitment either.

So I don't think it is a slam dunk solution but may work. Seems like many variables.

I went ahead and purchased the exhaust hanger kit separately from the reworked 6 bolt manifold. I am hoping a better exhaust mounting option will help get me some miles out of the stock TiiCo header before it breaks.

metropoj, see -pics attached- not sure whether this
is a true Tiico or uses parts from Tiico with diff engine.

As fas as I can tell, it's a Audi 2.0 w 8v head,
was pro installed, not a home brew, and it's been great
so far except for the AC/Alt bracket needed replacement
due to broken bolts and enlargement of the mount holes.

Now the AC Alt are tight with new hardware from FAS,
and smoother without the AC and Alt bracket vibrating.
Will upgrade to serpentine belt soon.

Running older Tiico ECU (258A) see attached pic - want to upgrade
to new 258E code ECU, will it work w my present injectors
or do I need to go with the newer FAS fuel rail + injectors?

Will a ECU from the orig Audi 80 be suitable? If no, why?

Has a Calif. BAR sticker, so it's smog legal in CA Smile

Cool, looks like you have an 'actual' Tiico Smile It is the correct term for what you are running at least injection wise and all the hardware I see.

The A code to E code you need to do what I did: A2 injectors, A2 Fuel Rail, A2 fuel pressure Regulator, 4 wire O2 sensor , All the parts I used are listed there.

The A3 serpentine system is a popular upgrade to get rid of the shakes. You have probably also upgraded your "Duo Sensor" from the 051 early type to the 031 part number. That made a difference when cold.

The Audi 80 ECU will be totally different an 99% sure incompatible. This injection had its roots from the South African Polo as a cheap custom injection so you either use it or don't.

All those that went the E code route rave about how well it performs. The fuel mapping is right ,etc. The A code made the engines run HOT because the mappings were all screwed up from what I've read. I am convinced a lot of early premature header failure was because of excess heat.

E Code isn't cheap but I felt it was a good investment to keep the motor running cooler and correctly injection wise.

find a fuel rail preferable from 88 to 92 jetta, golf.don't have to get FAS one.but they are getting harder to find.looking for one myself.when you find one at wrecking yard be sure to cut the O2 4 wire connector off and get the O2 sensor.a little cheaper than new.

Good grief, that engine bay shot looks like mine, right down to the body color.

The A2 fuel parts are on the big auction site pretty regularly, from what I hear on the tiico yahoogroup.

Does anyone know what the rubber air intake connector that goes to the air filter is from?

The rubber boot from the intake manifold to the air filter is reused from you wxb engine. Mine came with my engine when I bought it. The 1.9 and the 2.1 intake boot have different part numbers but the Ticco manual does not specify. In the Yahoo Ticco engine group there are files with all the parts numbers and what fits. I downloaded all the files and printed a small book to make sure all that information is always available to me. John

Here are some Tiico compatible parts from RockAuto. Very inexpensive.

I also used head gasket for 1988 Audi 80 4 cylinder (Victor Reinz 612829000 $15.95) but had to slightly modify one locating hole. So far it's working as intended.
