I stumbled across the Turkish TV show "Emergency Pyar" while searching YouTube for a specific episode from the American TV show "Emergency!". This show, filmed in Instanbul, Turkey features a young man- the Super Beetle/1303 driver- and a woman (in cap) who work in a hospital emergency room and happen to live in the same apartment building. All shots are from Episode 3, 2015.

American Detective. Looks like a split window bus, but then it doesn't look like a split window bus. Too short and weird read roof line. What do you think?

Yeah, if you scroll through this thread, Rome has taken the time to screen shot a TON of Adam-12 VW appearances. _________________ .

1973 412 Wagon in a C-Span3 lecture, April 6 2021.
The American TV cable channel C-Span is a non-profit public service channel, often covering political events but also historical programming or people connected to non-fiction books or general public policy. C-Span3 was showing a few university lectures on the development of US highways, which was very interesting to me because in this area of southern New York State there were numerous limited-access Parkways from the 1930's and 1950's covered in the lecture on which I've traveled, some in my vintage VWs.
Another lecture was "1970's America Car Culture and Film" which aired on April 6, 2021. The lecturer, University of Dayton (Ohio) History Professor Emeritus John Heitmann displayed this photo early in the presentation as an example of how most technology in the early 1970's came from Germany and Japan. Unfortunately he mistakenly identified this "new 1974 Volkswagen" as a Dasher , and not the 1973 412 (chrome bumpers in '73, dull aluminum for '74). Link to the lecture: https://www.c-span.org/video/?510093-1/1970s-american-car-culture-film |

American TV show "The Greatest American Hero" from 1981 - 1983 using a more humorous version of "The Adventures of Superman". Main character Ralph Hinckley (William Katt) receives superhuman powers from an alien UFO, provided he uses them in the interest of mankind and fighting evil. This photo is in the opening credits of each episode, showing him standing next to his pretty girlfriend Pam's (Connie Sellecca) '77 triple-white Super Beetle Karmann Cabrio Champagne Edition at that encounter.
In season 2, episode 20 "Captain Bellybuster and the Speed Factory" from 1982, Hinckley, Pam; and FBI agent friend Bill Maxwell (Robert Culp) use Pam's SB to follow antagonists who have kidnapped the hamburger brand mascot Capt. Bellybuster.
Maxwell struggles with driving due to a "bad clutch" and engine stumbling. Interior mirror removed, per common TV filming practice.
As they follow the Capt. to a park in the final scene, a policeman there comes over to the Beetle as he sees Pam try to find something amiss at the engine. You can see the partially faded tire brand "Bridgestone" here.
With the Capt. rescued, they all pile into the Beetle and drive off. |
