Cleaned the shop today and put all the tools away. I did a test patch with 1000 grit to start and finish with 2000, I think the peel will cut down pretty easily. I do need to get foam pad for the DA to help keep it from cutting too fast though. That will have to wait till next weekend. My plan is to start organizing all the parts to install over the next couple of nights. So many boxes!

I'll admit I was skeptical before, but I really like the color combo when looking at them together on the Bus!

If you like the green color I used, here is the paint code. Keep in mind Olive Drab Green doesn't cross reference so this is the closest I could match.

Last night I spent two hour just on the drivers door wet sanding and buffing. I am super happy with the finish, it has just enough peel to help with imperfections that will happen during camping. For those of you doing the same, I started with 1000 grit, then 1500, and final with 2000. Then a combo wool pad and cutting compound at about 1500 rpm, and finaly with foam pad with polishing compound. Now on to the rest of the bus. At two hours just for one door I figure this will take about 20 hours to complete. At least then I can move on to assembly easier.

more and more sanding and buffing, I will admit the more it do it the better the results are getting. I also started adding the sound deadening later in the night. I try to shut the compressor off if it gets to late. You all know what I am talking about. Neighbors can only handle so much of the rattling.

Back to the wheel conversation from a couple of pages back. I bought the tires for the 14" rims then found that one rim was bum and the other I have no idea what it came off of. Well yesterday a really cool guy was giving this set of 15" wheels off a B5 Passat away for free. Now I need some help as to the largest size you have seen on these rims that wont rub a ton. That really nice orange one I believe is using 215 R75 15. What do you all think?

Dude you are solid. I think the stock off set is 37 - look on one of your 14's. Its either that or 38. No biggie. You have my rims then. The center and the stud holes need to be opened.

Then with a lift kit you will be taller. Cool Laughing

This is great news, I will order the tires tomorrow and prep the wheels for Powder coating. I like the silver color, thanks for the guidance guys.

Had a late start to the night but made pretty good progress on the bus. I was able to wet sand and buff the slider door and mount all its hardware. I also spent about 2 hours organizing all the nuts bolts and hardware. The guy I bought the two busses from had boxes of extra parts in them and a lot of items taken apart. This was a good chance to organize and inventory the parts. I seem to have double and triples of a lot of parts. I will just pick the best of them to install and sell off the extras.

looking good

i bet you'll have closer to 50 hours doing a cut and buff if you plan on doing the roof.

when i did the deluxe we did a 100 mph cut and buff then did it again after it was built. no need to do it that way but no matter what you'll have some scrapes putting it together.

i can appreciate the work put it. every fucking inch of it sucks. first chip hurts the most too

Without a doubt, 50 hours might even be a bit light. I did almost three hours just on the rear hatch tonight. Tomorrow I am going to venture on the front end. Pray I don't break through the clear on all those edges. I have left the bottom 6-8 inches with the peel on purpose to give a textured look though.

Got the Rear hatch cut and buffed, and installed. I also made a tool for installing the rear hatch springs. I fought these before and I figured there had to be a better way. I just ground away on this bar until it fit the spring, easy peasy after that. Before with a prybar I was taking my life in my hands the many times it slipped and un sprung.

Im going to stop stating more wet sanding and buffing and just show the end results. On a much much more fun area I was able to lay down a ton (about 50lbs) of sound deadening. I need to order the insulation portion now for the next step. This will both insulate and work on absorbing road noise.

Those tabs will allow a panel to be mounted for the shifter and house the AC/Heater unit. I will have to cut some of the floor out to fit the Subaru unit but that will be another day. The plan is to connect into the existing pipe to the front vents and install rear vents at the back of the enclosure. There is also a rear air unit for under the Z-bed. These units were harvested from the Tribeca donor. I just figured better to weld in the tabs prior to paint.
